did anyone buy this air purifier: Intellipure Premium Plus? as soon as i first turned it on, there was a very strong odor that smelled like an active Xerox copying machine.

this smell has disappated after a few weeks but the smell is still there. my big problem with it is that i had gotten headaches and burning throat and burning brochioles which have actually gotten worse as i use the air purifier.

i can only tolerate a few hours of it on, and then the headaches or burning throat and chest come on so then i turn it off and then symptoms subside. i have not used it for a couple of days now and no headaches/burning so i know these symptoms are directly from the product.

has anyone bought this product? i complained to the manufacturer and they told me it was the "high oxygen" levels that i'm smelling.

ok, if that's the case, then why has the smell significantly decreased with use? the source of the smell leads me to believe that it's a motor issue (not high O2) but the headaches and burnings baffle me.

this device produces no ozone, btw. so i don't know if this particular device's air purifying technology is caustic or what?

anybody have any reasons for my symptoms?

You say that you both: still have trouble with its use

but also ask" "then why has the smell significantly decreased with use? "

Did you intend to put a "not" in that last sentence?

Likely the plastic casing, glues used and maybe whatever else the parts of made of . . . even the very motor itself? It might contain some kind of oils.

I would not mess around it and just return and get them to cover the shipping back to them cost since there is clearly something wrong with it - for you as the customer.

Be sure they file a report on this - or you fill out your experience, too so they can research the problem - and so others know, too.

In my experience, it's best to just send it back ASAP.

Plastics can take years to off-gas, same with certain glues or motor oils. Sorry. Must be really disappointing.

Get all the phellodenrons (?) you can, but not in soil. Put them in water and they will take root, not develpe any mold issue with the water (really) ... and this house plant is very sturdy and he;lps prufity au=ir (so much noise from downstr apt i cn't typeZ)

Flame retardants might be in this.

Thanks for your response Keebler. I don't think it's the plastic casing or glues. The headaches and burning only come on when it's turned on. Also it's a very pricey filter (around $950, if memory serves) that's recommended by popular Lyme bloggers and famous mold health practitioners.

The technological is called Dual Bipolar Purification & Sanitation. It's patented proprietary technology apparently. The process is a no ozone, cold plasma based technology that splits water vapor into positive and negative ions that are discharged into the air. At least that's the gist of it 🤔
So as you can see, it really sounds like an excellent filter. I have never heard a single negative peep from anyone about this filter. So it sounds like it's only me. Is it working sooo well that I am just not used to having such a technologically advanced air filter? I would feel validated if there was at least one complaint out there. So maybe others will chime in if they bought this particular air filter. Thanks!

It's not "only" you - it's the machine. Trust that your body says you should not be around this.

Even if it's not the machine parts but, rather, the process (whatever all that is),

this sounds like your body is clearly being damaged to have such serious reaction.

That it's worse when on would still make sense regarding the plastics and glues -- or flame retardants in its power panel or wire wrappings, etc. - since it's warmer when working -

even if it does not feel warm the touch from the outside. Newer / different materials might also be in this than in previous models.

Bottom line, though: This is the machine. It's not "just" you but your body telling you that sometime is wrong. IMO, this needs to go back to where it came from because - well, even if you want to blame your body for essentially being too picky or weak, say, that is not your fault.

Something is going on with this machine that is a fact. And that fact is that that you have signals it needs to go back.

Sorry if so blunt. I have so much experience with this sort of thing and made a lot of "blaming my body" for not being able to do this / that when, really removing the offending agent was what made more sense.

It matters not if others have done well with it, even this particular model with others you might have over.

Bad reviews can be buried, erased, etc. Some people don't post them. Some will just blame themselves and think themselves odd or worse.

Your body has gotten the message it is damaging to you - for whatever reasons. You are required to neither pinpoint nor defend.

Trust what your body's reactions tell you loud and clear. The machine is a danger to you. Do not imagine that this will be kind to you in a week if it's not now.

You might not notice it as much but that could be even worse.
Trust your body more than this machine. Send it on its way. Please.

Rather than blame your body, thank it for being so clear to warn you. Take care.

When returning it directly to the manufacturer - after having informed them - because you have having this "serious lung & headache" reaction to it -

be sure to talk to someone at the top in product safety.

If you, take the tone that your alert is for their good, too - and assume the WANT To know about this and get you a refund.

Do not trust that a vendor will make any report on this or get it back to the mfr for inspection. Still, you might have to work with a separate for refund but work first through the mfr.

The mfr. should issue you a free return shipping label and have FedEx or UPS come to your home for pickup - and even if it's beyond a regular return date, a refund in full should be issued.

You should get a return tracking number so you have proof of return.

You also need their promise - again by someone in charge - that they will investigate this matter.

Get their name, spelling, title and mark the time, date, and points of your phone conversation for your own record on this.

Get some kind of confirmation number of the conversation so if you have to call back, there is a reference number with details of the conversation.

Their suppliers might have changed materials, etc. They need a fair chance not just to be on guard for others (people & products) but also to have a fair notice of the problem as they may not be aware.

Do not say that you wonder about yourself, your own perceptions of this or feel at all unsure in what you are reporting. Do not make this about your body being weak in any way.

This is about the machine and the clear effects it has caused you.

Do not ask them if this has happened to others, or if it could happen. Tell them, matter of fact: this is happening to you with direct cause to the machine.

After they get that detail, then you might inquire as to if they've had some reports. If not, still insist they facilitate return (even if you bought from another 2nd hand vendor - but informed all parties involved) they investigate and get back to you.

Do not let them talk you into letting this get better over time. That's no good - no good at all.'

With the symptoms you deserve, permanent lung damage could be occurring and it could get worse. Please do not use this again.

Good luck.

Last line of my last post:

Uh. Sorry. Not "With the symptoms you deserve, . . . "

Yikes, that's a shocker. In this midnight hour as I close down my computer, I can't believe I typed that!

should read: "With the symptoms you describe . . . ." and "you deserve for them to make this right for you."

Good luck.
