This has been discussed in General Support, but Robin123 suggested I post it here too.
E.

Hi to all friends old and new on Lymenet,

I think people might want to take a look at a website (see web address below) which may prove to be one of the most valuable tools we have ever had in understanding the motivations of those who deny our suffering.

Most of you probably know of Wikipedia, the online encycolopedia set up so that anyone can contribute and edits may be made by any member of the public. It has millions of users around the world so obviously the content of the Lyme Disease entry is very important.

Some of you might know that for months now, those of us putting up accurate and evidence-based information in the Wikipedia Lyme Disease entry have had it altered, deleted or otherwise sabotaged by those who, against all evidence, aim to convince the world that Lyme is an "overdiagnosed" and "easily-cured" disease.

Recently a computer expert created a programme which allows the user to see the sources of all edits to Wikipedia that were made anonymously. The programme received worldwide news coverage some weeks ago when it revealed that the CIA, for example, was anonymously tampering with various entries.

I think Lymies should be aware that the programmer has kindly made this tool available for free to all who wish to use it. It's on his website (see end of message). Simply key in the name of the entry you are interested in (eg Lyme Disease) and you will be presented with a list of all computers which made anonymous edits, the changes they made, their IP addresses, the date, and even a list of edits made from that IP address to other entries on Wikipedia.

When I used the tool yesterday I found close to 900 anonymous edits, including attempts to completely destroy the Lyme Disease entry or hide it from view.

Very noteworthy are the following organisations who tried to **anonymously** change the entry:

--CDC -

they were keen to insert the phrase "deer tick" -why do that anonymously?

--Department of Defense -

they removed the address of a website with pictures purporting to be microfilaria found in Lyme - I have no idea if the site is genuine or a hoax, nor what the motives of DoD were in doing that, nor why they felt it necessary to do it anonymously

--Nato base in Italy

They altered a photo of a deer tick

--Oxford University -

Added a section emphasising the "mainstream" view that the Lyme epidemic was caused by reforestation, increased deer numbers etc. Please be aware that there are alternative explanations - for example, see www.lyme-rage.info/bwsept06.html

--Unable to name due to Lymenet rules on naming doctors

(this is a former Lyme Program officer at NIH and microbiologist specialising in biological warfare, fired for harassment of Lyme disease activists in the 1990's)

His editing is viewable when you look at the entry for "Verizon, Crofton Maryland" He removed an entire section which informed readers that besides the IDSA guidelines there are also guidelines from ILADS, and other pertinent information.

The tool is available at:
http://wikiscanner.virgil.gr

I recommend that anyone who finds it useful also email the programmer Virgil, thanking him for making it available to us.

The fact that DoD and Nato are anonymously tampering with Lyme Disease information may be spooky, but I believe we have to be in possession of the truth if we are ever to make progress. A Happy Halloween to all!

Elena

Here is a further post I wrote on the same issue:

The CDC recently announced it would investigate Morgellons disease, after intense pressure built up when for example, certain Ilads doctors found Morgellons connections to borrelia, other microbes and even Agrobacterium tumefaciens, the genetic engineering bug used all over the globe.

It is clear now that the CDC has been anonymously altering the info on Wikipedia about Morgellons disease . Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia viewed by millions around the globe.

Once again using the wikiscanner tool at http://wikiscanner.virgil.gr , I was able to see evidence of this tampering. The tool is free for all to use so you can confirm this yourself.

In previous messages I mentioned that the Wikiscanner tool allows us to see that the Dept of Defence, Nato, CDC, Dr McSweegan (biowarfare scientist and fomer Lyme Program officer at NIH) etc have all been anonymously editing the Wikipedia entry for Lyme Disease!

The same tool reveals a malicious edit by the Pentagon, no less, of the entry for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome!

You can see the results for the anonymous editing of the Morgellons info at

http://wikiscanner.virgil.gr/f.php?pagetitle=morgellons

Interesting edits I found are the following:

1. CDC, who seemed to struggle making several anonymous edits until they settled on this text:

"The medical community, as well as the foremost scientific laboratories of the world, view Morgellon's as just another name for delusory parasitosis"

So, didn't they tell us they were doing an "impartial investigation" to find out the true cause? I am sure their investigation will be very impartial and highly professional, judging by what their anonymous edit above.

2. Someone based at the University of Strathclyde, Scotland, who edited the Morgellons entry to add the following:

"Morgellons is caused by devils."

Univ of Strathclyde is very closely linked with the Eucalb, the main Steerite organisation in Europe. However it is possible that this was just a rogue user of the university network.

3. This one by Selectquote Insurance Services of California, which anonymously added this:

"On the fringes of Morgellons research, there is a contention that the condition might be the first known outbreak of a [[nanotech]] parasite - a man-made molecular machine designed to be spread pathologically through as yet undetermined methods."[http://www.rense.com/general74/morg4.htm]

Why is an insurance company plugging stories about nanotechnology-run-amok on rense.com?

4. An unknown person at Verizon Baltimore, using the IP address 71.248.92.195 who wrote an extremely abusive message about the founder of a Morgellons patient campaign.

I am sure that it is just a co-incidence that the style of libellous insults used are exactly those used by former NIH Lyme officer Dr McSweegan, who used his account with Verizon to remove a huge text from the Lyme Disease entry, describing the ILADS point of view.

Elena Cook
------

A further possibly relevant issue is that the Dept of Defense clandestinely altered the entry for Gulf War Syndrome. They removed a phrase stating that GWS involves immune system damage and can cause birth defects in the children of affected veterans.

Elena, this is VERY interesting information.... good sleuthing on your part!

So, knowing this, what good is Wikipedia anyway if anybody can come along and edit information?

(I don't think many people know how Wikipedia works.)

Thanks!

Well, how can you say that a particular person is responsible for an Edit? Verizon in Crofton, MD is a pretty big area. Could be anyone, right?

I notice a lot of websites disappear with regard to cell phone dangers, too. The industry government, and military are involved in that coverup, too:

http://www.instituteforinquiry.org/inquiries/slesin_html.php

The above article is probably identical in theory to what is happening with Lyme.

No surprise to me -- as a long-time CFIDS activist -- that the CDC tried to tamper with the entry on chronic fatigue syndrome. I *strongly* encourage anyone interested in the way Lyme is being squelched by the government to read Osler's Web, which outlines in exquisite detail how the government tried to cover up the reality of CFIDS (it's a perfect prototype for what they have done to Lyme).

I can correlate my beginnings of illness after receiving the Hepatitis B vaccine series, flu vaccine and Tetanus within a 1 year period. Coincidently I had major health problems that arose and recently got the diagnosis of chronic lyme, Erhliciosis, and mycoplamsa fermantans (what the gulf war vets have). I believe in my heart that I could have gotten this immune illness/contamination from my vaccines. How can a lawyer help me or prove this ?? Anyone know ??

In my prior post I mentioned I had an accurate version of the original article we had from 2006. We can reestablish correct data using this template. If you visit Wikipedia, you'll find the IDSA has completely absorbed our data, so let's get started.

Since we're starting from scratch again:

Teamwork:

We should put a team together to re-establish the original post. Each of us should pick a section and then one person should be responsible for the final edit to make sure all references are correctly linked to the correct citation, and that the table of contents and grammar are accurate. The key isn't to erase everything and replace it, but rather to reincorporate the correct data that "balances" the circumstances.

Individual Responsibility

Each person may choose two sections here. I will list the Table Of Contents for the original 2006 Update, and you can choose the one you want. I will also post the 2009 Table Of Contents which you will also choose a section that corresponds to your first. If a section is unique to only one version, such as the 2009 version has a section for "Documentary" -- you can choose to do just one alone.

Accuracy, Ethics, Credibility

It will be your job to accurately re-update the data using the old information and to then compare it with the latest IDSA altered data. You may keep some IDSA data if the facts support it's relevancy in the debate. Have integrity and support all facts with sources from both sources of the IDSA and ILADS. Ethics is crucial. Do not bias your data, because trust me, others will be reviewing what you write and it must reflect truth and facts.

Choose Corresponding Section of 2006 ver. with 2009 ver.

This is a review: Once you choose your content page section for the original 2006 section, you must then choose a corresponding section from the 2009 contents. Your job is to connect them, organize them, extract useful data to make them balanced and useful to readers who may come to Wikipedia as their source of information on this disease. Again, you may add new updated information to your section that is not available on the section I give you, but it must be cited, credible, and honest.

Example of sections chosen and what to post once you've made your decision.

REMEMBER, all updates are posted on another thread. Here is the link:

quote:

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/8/1286

"I chose from the 2006 version and then :

* 1 Symptoms
........o 1.1 Acute (early) symptoms that may occur
........o 1.2 Chronic (late) symptoms

"I chose the corresponding section for the 2009 version:

* 1 Symptoms
........o 1.1 Stage 1 - Early localized infection
........o 1.2 Stage 2 - Early disseminated infection
........o 1.3 Stage 3 - Late persistent infection

As you can see, one person would cover all these sections and edit them. You may choose bigger sections like these, or a smaller section for those who don't feel they can manage bigger sections. A smaller section might be:

"I chose Prognosis from the 2006 version"

* 5 Prognosis

"I chose Prognosis from the 2009 version"

* 7 Prognosis

Who Is Keeping Track?

We are. There will be a main editor, but it's up to each of you individually to work on your individual section and to them contact the editor once finished. Do not post your actual entire section here when finished, you will go to the webpage at the very bottom of this article to update us and to post which sections you chose. When you finish your version post it to Wiki, and then post the title of your section on a thread called "Wikipedia Battle In Full Swing" -- you'll find the link at the bottom of this post.

Let's Begin

So who wants to begin? Take your time with your update. Write it out in Word, Notepad -- or whatever you wish, and keep a copy of it until you're ready to finalize the data. Once finished, you can PM the person here who decides to handle the editing process. This way the changes are done incrementally on the Wiki page, not all at once, which would send a signal. I realize by discussing this here publicly, that it may raise a red flag, but suffice to say it's the best course of action.

Summary
  • *1: Choose your contents section from the original 2006 data.
*2: Choose a second section from the content section of the 2009 data.
*3: When you finish choosing your content section go to the thread titled "Wikipedia Battle In Full Swing" -- you'll find the link at the bottom of this post.
*4: Fuse the two contents sections you chose from 2006 and 2009. Fuse them together using credible sources and intelligent writing. Do not speculate. Your data must rely on studies, and resources supporting both sides of the debate.
*5: Contact the primary editor by PM and revise the data until it reflects accurate data that helps our cause while also being ethical and objective.
*6: Once your section has been revised with the editor, notify us with a quick note that your section has been posted. Members should not attempt to continue revision at this time.

Most Important: Lead Editor

Who is up for the challenge of handling the entire editing process? Your job will be to work with each person who comes to you with their individual section. You will read and review both copies of the original 2006 and 2009 Wikipedia entry, and to be reasonable and ethical about it's application when the individual hands in their version.

Scientific Journal Background

My choice for an editor would be Oxygenbabe by default if she were still here and still willing. Someone with a scientific journalism background would be most helpful, though anyone confident in meeting the challenge can accept.

How To Review Copies Of 2006 Version and 2009 Version

To receive the original copies of the 2006 version and the 2009 version:

E-mail me for the 2006 version: [email protected]

To read the latest version on Wikipedia visit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyme_Disease

WHERE WILL WE KEEP TRACK OF WHO IS DOING WHAT?

This thread will be where you document which sections you chose and all information will go here: Anything having to do with the Wikipedia team project should go to this post below.

Thank you Eight Legs Band for working so diligently to protect us.

I know nothing about computers except the very basic e-mail and google searches so I can't be helpful to you.

However, I do want to extend my deepest appreciation and support to you for dealing with this.

I'm not sure if Eight Legs Bad is still posting here, as this was from 2007 and I haven't seen them around in many months at least.

I think the Lyme wiki debacle is currently set adrift and looking for some assistance and management.

The problem with this topic is that if several people with ILADS views go in to make changes it throws red flags and they delete the info - it tends to look like a managed group change which is supposedly against the wiki rules.

Unfortunately, IDSA-leaning folks manage to make changes at their leisure and have managed to gain acceptance and credibility in the wiki community, and have control over the editing and oversight of the Lyme article now.

I still don't have the neuro abilities to even consider trying to edit wiki myself, and I cwertainly don't have the ability to deal with the fight that would likely commence from the IDSA side. I have no energy for arguing.

This is a delicate issue, and I am concerned about it. I hope someone can take up the cause and edit it themselves, alone. One person to handle the editing and discussion, and remain calm and super polite etc. so that they don't close the article indefinitely again due to controversy.

I hope my rambling made sense, but that is what I gathered about how this went down before.
