Take 5mg ambien almost every night (works good to get deep sleep, I can attain shallow sleep without).
Was on levaquin for ~ 1month, helped some symptoms, in fact sleep got a little better, but switched to rifampin due to tendon soreness and some nuero symptoms from the levaquin.
Very apparent to me, the rifampin seems to inactivate the ambien.
Since I take both doxy and rifampin BID, I was thinking of taking the normal morning dose~8am, and the evening dose earlier, like 2 or 3pm, to try and give more time before sleep.
Would 8am and a 3 pm dose be OK, or should one "try" to keep them ~12h apart? Dose is 200mg and 300mg BID.
Also, any problems with rifampin and milk thistle, or even milk thistle and sleep?

Rifampin is a very old antibiotic that for many years has been used for the treatment of chronic infections such as tuberculosis. It is very effective against Bartonella/BLO. In particular, it is very useful for the neurological and psychiatric manifestations of Bartonella/BLO—severe anxiety and mood swings, panic, seizure-like episodes, memory loss, “spaciness,” confusion, disorientation episodes, and many other symptoms. Expect a herx-like reaction during the first week or so; then significant progress often occurs during the second or third week on rifampin.
It is best used in combination with certain other antibiotics. Frequently, those combinations include rifampin with doxycycline or rifampin with clarithromycin. The combination of rifampin with doxycycline is especially helpful when a patient with Bartonella/BLO is also infected with either Ehrlichia or Lyme. The dosage of rifampin is 300 mg per day for the first week; increase to 600 mg once a day after the first week. It is advisable to use rifampin in the evening (not at bedtime) on an empty stomach, three hours or more after a meal. It may be used in the morning an hour before breakfast also.

Thanks JT. So if 600mg could be used at once, an early 300mg should be fine. I took it early today, and I'm feeling it now.
I started out 300mgBID, not just 300mg. I hope it does get better in another week or so...Finishing my job here, packing, moving cross country, and starting a new job the end of August..ha ha.

I am considering going on Rifampin again because I think it took away some of my symptoms that are now back.
I took it one year ago 600 mg a day for 2 weeks. At the two week mark I felt so awful. BP 195/156, I thought I was having a heart attack. I had bruising all down my legs and my sleep meds didn't work. I think that was the worst part.
This time I will start out 300 mg a day for one week and then move up to 600 mg. If I get the nerve up to try this medicine again.
I will try to take it early as I need to sleep!
Please post again and let us know how this protocol is going.
