Dear Members of the Lyme Community,
I am excited to inform you about proposed legislation in New Hampshire which will authorize licensed physicians to prescribe long-term antibiotics for therapeutic purposes to patients diagnosed with Lyme Disease.
New Hampshire House Bill 1326 has been introduced to the 2010 Legislative Session. I am writing to ask for your immediate support. First, I would like to ask you to attend a public hearing for this bill, which is scheduled for January 28th at 10 a.m. at the Legislative Office Building in Concord. Second, I would like you to submit written testimony that depicts how your journey has been impacted with or without long-term care from a Lyme-literate doctor. I know this is quick notice. But we need to rally the New Hampshire Lyme community to respond to this opportunity to begin to change the landscape of Lyme Disease in our state.
What is New Hampshire House Bill 1326
House Bill 1326 is an act related to the use of long-term antibiotics for the treatment of Lyme Disease. It is sponsored by Representative Gary Daniels, Hillsborough 6, and Representative Carol Vita, Strafford 3. This bill authorizes licensed physicians to prescribe long-term antibiotics for therapeutic purposes to patients diagnosed with Lyme Disease. HB 1326 will protect the physician's rights to determine the most appropriate treatment protocol for their patients.
Please Attend Public Hearing on January 28th at 10 a.m.
Lyme Disease Bill HB 1326 is scheduled for a public hearing on Thursday, January 28 at 10 a.m. before the Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committee. It is imperative that members of the New Hampshire Lyme Community attend the hearing to show their support. We hope to get a minimum of 200 people to attend. Please put this date on your calendar and pass the word on to your friends. The hearing will be held in the Legislative Office Building (LOB) in Room 205. The LOB is located directly behind the State House in Concord, 107 North Main Street. Please be aware that this date may change. The hearing may be moved to a larger venue if a bigger turn-out is anticipated. I will notify you at this email if any date changes occur. Could you please let me know if you intend to attend the hearing?
Please submit written testimony
We ask that members of the New Hampshire Lyme Community share their story in written format. Please refrain from using doctor's names. Testimonies will be submitted for review to the Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committee. We suggest testimonies be no longer than two double-spaced pages if possible, but if you need more space, please take it. The testimony should highlight how your illness (or the illness of a loved one) has been impacted by a doctor (doctors) who is (or aren't) able to provide long-term treatment. Please submit the testimony to me at my e-mail address (below). We will take testimonies after this date, but it is most helpful for our cause to get testimonies in by 1/14/2010. I will be sure that your testimony is reviewed by the Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committee. You have an important story to tell; now is the time for it to be heard by our policy makers.
Please support this legislation. HB 1326 is intended to protect doctors who specialize in treating Lyme Disease. If we work together, we can improve the treatment of Lyme Disease in New Hampshire. I look forward to seeing you on January 28th.
