David A. McHoul, 63
Funeral director; veteran; loved Provincetown
PROVINCETOWN - David McHoul, 63, died Monday at Cape End Manor from complications from Lyme disease.
Born in Boston, he was educated at Watkinson Preparatory School in Hartford, Conn,. and the New England Institute, Boston.
Mr. McHoul served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. From 1962 to 1983 he and his brother ran McHoul Services, a Boston-based funeral livery service. He moved to Provincetown in 1984 and opened McHoul Funeral Home in 1985.
He enjoyed coffee with ''the boys'' at Adams Pharmacy every morning, riding his bike around town, going to Long Point in his boats, the Digger I and more recently No Wake, his dalmation, Dune, who was by his side for 14 years, and his wheaten terrier, Wheeti. He especially loved to eat at Provincetown restaurants.
Between 1990 and 2000 he did a lot of traveling.
Survivors include his girlfriend, Sandy Dobbyn of Provincetown; two daughters, Kelly Doyle of Plymouth and Karey Gatens of Los Angeles; his parents, Alexander and Mildred McHoul of Dorchester; two brothers, Douglas McHoul of New York and Puerto Rico and Donald McHoul of North Attleboro; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown, with vigil prayers at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday from the funeral home proceeding to a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Church Hall, Prince Street, Provincetown.
Burial is in St. Peter's Cemetery.
