What's the difference? I've used Artemisin but not the other.

It used to be that simple. There is at least one exception that I am aware of.

Dr. Schaller's new book on Babesia discusses Artemisia and its derivatives in great detail, and discusses the 'Artemisiae' capsules from Dr. Zhang sold at hepapro.com.

At first glance you would assume that these were just ground up whole herb and low potency. Wrong!

The fine print says 'proprietary extract of', and Dr. Schaller's book goes on to explain that this is actually Artesunate, along with a couple of other herbs to complement its action. Artesunate has 400 to 500% more effectiveness than Artemisinin.

Dr. Zhang's recent book goes on to explain that they do not use Artemisinin itself clinically anymore, as extracts like Artesunate are superior in action and even less toxic.

I have used Artemisinin from Organic Pharmacy as needed for quite awhile to keep Babesia pounded down, but without really gaining the upper hand.

I recently bought some of the Zhang 'Artmesiae', and can vouch that it is indeed more potent stuff. We'll see what it can do to the Babesia.

I don't know if there are other such exceptions, but it pays to read carefully and ask questions so as to know just what you are getting.

Great question, Tickalert. I do recall reading about this in a past post awhile ago, but I know I was in severe brainfog at the time, so comprehension levels were low.

James, Thank you so much for your explanation. My LLND started me on the Zhang babesia protocol with an abx at my first appointment.

This does include the artemisiae that you discuss. Since I have not tried any other variation of Art, I have nothing to compare it to, but my doctor definitely respects what Dr. Zhang is doing.

I do know that Art has been discussed in the past and often in lower doses, which always confused me, since Zhang's Art is 400 mg a capsule and he has me taking it three times a day.

I know when I started treatment, something kicked my butt into outerspace, but being on abx, allicin, and art at the same time, it's hard to say which it was.

Thank you for taking the time to talk about the various things you have read. I know we all appreciate it.

Cathy
