I am looking for an llmd in NJ. I was tested and only have band 23 positive and i am having trouble getting treatment.

I have numbness and tingling in my head, face, and leg. Weakness in arms and legs, extreme fatigue and headaches. Too much to post.

I am 30 years old. Thank you so much for the help and God bless:)

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NewJerseylyme

Maybe they can help you.

Some more resources for you:
www.lyme-aware.org
www.ilads.org
www.lymediseaseassociation.org

Once you get some names, write a new post in "Seeking a Doctor" to ask for personal references. This way, you will find the right doctor to give you the correct treatment.

I believe you are referring to TurntheCorner Foundation. I believe it is now called TBDA.

I know some folks with lyme disease who live in NJ. They have given me lots of negative reports on some of the lyme doctors there. There aren't any lyme doctors I recommend in New Jersey. Are you willing to go to other states for treatment? If so, I could give you some names--one in NY state and one in Washington, D.C.

These docs do telephone appointments after the first in-person appointment, so you would not have to travel every month if you didn't want to. It is an easy train ride to the doc in D.C.

Let me know if you want the names. Just click on the envelope icon above my post and write to me privately for the names. Also, you can tell me the docs you are considering in NJ and I can tell you what I know about them. Don't want you to get a bad doc and waste lots of time and money.

Many doctors treat lyme disease, but only a few know enough to get rid of it for a person. And, in many states, including NJ, there are lots of doctors who are afraid to treat lyme disease appropriately. So, the patient gets short-changed. I know the doctors with the courage to treat it properly.

At least half of all lyme patients go out of state for their medical care. That's what I was told by a lyme support group over 10 years ago when I was looking for a doctor. So, be willing to travel to get to a top notch lyme doctor who can actually get rid of this disease for you.

I got rid of lyme 8 years ago now after having it unknowingly for at least 10 years. Plus I had babesiosis and bartonella. (Nobody has just lyme disease.) I treated lyme for 3 years. The first 2 years, I was with a doctor who didn't know enough. He helped me some, but he gave me basically lousy lyme treatment. So, it was a wasted 2 years. This is a VERY COMMON story. Now, I stick around here just to point people to the best doctors so they don't have to waste years like I did and lots of money trying to get rid of this horrendous disease.

If you don't know about the medical controversy surrounding lyme disease and how lyme doctors can be harrassed for treating lyme patients properly, it would be good for you to learn about it. It affects your ability to get good lyme treatment tremendously. Here is a 2 part video about the lyme controversy that will give you a lot of information:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVPRWiukp_M

This show was done by a Boston TV station a few years ago and someone recorded it for us.

The very best document you can read to learn about lyme disease is the Burrascano Guidelines found here:

http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

I suggest you study this document and then look for a doctor that does everything Burrascano says must be done to clear lyme disease. He was the most successful lyme doctor in his day. He is also the number one lyme disease pioneer, even testifying before the U.S. Congress in the early 90's about the horrible medical "war" that has been raging for years regarding this disease, keeping most people from finding out that they have lyme disease and definitely from getting good treatment.

Once you understand what good lyme treatment looks like, you will be able to evaluate the treatment any doctor offers you and you will know if it is good or bad. Because of the medical controversy, you can't just go to a doctor and put yourself in his hands. If you do, it could be years later that you find out you received inadequate treatment and your disease has continued to progress.

So, unfortunately, with this disease it pays to become a very educated patient.

I agree. I am in NJ and went to 3 of the "best" LLMD,s that Jersey has to offer. It was a train wreck.... Now treating with a true Lyme specialist in NY. If you can travel your options open up quite a bit. DW
