After a decades-long battle vs Lyme disease, my dear friend Ellen Loughlin died May 19, 2006. Apparently the Lyme disease bacteria was too much for her heart.
Ellen and I both saw the same local infectious disease specialists, who ruled out Lyme disease.
Years ago Ellen responded well to IV antibiotics but she relapsed when treatments stopped.
She was 56.

From what I've heard/read, once it gets to the heart there's not much that can be done.
I'm seeing a heart specialist once a year as of last spring, just to stay on top of things and he is aware that I was diagnosed with Lyme in November. I cannot recommend strongly enough that a heart doc be included in a lymies endless list of doc visits.

Neil, my heartfelt sympathies to you on your beloved friend, Ellen's early death from lyme at 56....1 yr. younger than me!
Neil, if you go to Treepatrol's newbie links in medical...the top part, go the very end of all his links. There you will find some sympathy poems Treepatrol was kind enough to post for me to help all of you out there in lyme land.
I feel the poem, I'M FREE AT LAST, will have special meaning to you, and REMEMBER ME .... Here's my long distance hug :grouphu g: and kiss
I also hope her death certificate will have complications from CHRONIC LYME disease as the cause of her death.
