I am thinking about having my mercury fillings removed, before I start back on anymore treatment for my lyme. Is that risky?
I figure that way I can reduce my overall toxic body burden and start detoxifying my heavy metals, while I am treating my lyme too. I say this, because I am so toxic already and my lyme treatment adds to my toxicity significantly, causing me more problems/symptoms.
Do you think that is wise?
What do I need to know and do beforehand?
Where would I begin to look for a dentist who can help me?

you should have a mercury heavy metals test prior to any treatment. if the level is high then you should have them removed several at a time with rubber dam and high speed suction with mercury /silver filter in it.this will keep the mercury out of the water source in your city, since most dentist drain into normal drainage, which in turn goes to city water for cleaning.' if levels are not high then there is really no need for removal at this time since your immune system problems are not related to your amalgams. removal will just cause you lots of problems and lots of money for no logical reason but to remove amalgams because some people think they will ill you.THEY WON'T UNLESS YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM IS ABOUT ZERO AND YOU HAVE A HIGH MERCURY RESULT FROM LAB TESTS. When I first became ill several years ago, I had all amalgams removed. I think it is worth considering further but would advise that you take lots of binding agents (chlorella for example), etc. before and after the removal. Search here on Lymenet for posts from GiGi which talk about Dr. K's recommendations. I think that you can also find lots of good info at www.neuraltherapy.com that talk about Heavy Metals and amalgams. It is very important to have someone that knows how to do it properly as you do not want to expose yourself to more mercury/risk removing them incorrectly than leaving them in.

I'm a new poster, but I'm pretty informed about this issue so thought I'd chime in.
Definitely do a heavy metal toxicity test before even thinking about removing amalgams. The test I did was a provoked urine challenge through Doctor's Data. The test was less than $100 and covered a range of heavy metals--cadmium, lead, mercury, etc. Don't bother with hair testing.
If your levels for mercury come out high, removing amalgams is just ONE possible (and expensive) solution, because your mercury exposure may have been from another source.
If you decide to go that route, find a dentist who follows the IAOMT protocols for removing mercury (as described above).
You would also need to detox the existing mercury out of your body, probably through a combination of chelation therapy using DMSA and sweat therapy using a traditional or infra-red sauna.
Detoxing is a long-term solution to a long-term problem, not something you can do in a week or a month. Good luck!!
