My guess is that it won't help.
Is Tamiflu contraindicated in Lyme patients?
I just got back from Urgent Care and a top notch physician who is familiar with our ongoing saga...5 family members diagnosed in the past 6 months; 2 symptomatic untreated little ones, and now our only healthy child has suspicious symptoms.
My teenage son has another fever with flu symptoms. He just had these symptoms 5 weeks ago. The symptoms lasted one week.
The peculiar thing is that NO ONE else in our family contracted this "flu" in the last 5 weeks...neither the 2 little ones nor the 2 immunosupressed ones.
It makes me VERY suspicious that this is also Lyme.
The MD was sure this was the true flu & gave him a Rx for Tamiflu.
My son was perfectly normal at lunch time. By 2:00 pm he had a fever with all the symptoms. The school nurse asked me to take him home...exactly like what happened last month.
My son had a temp of 102.4, red cheeks& ears, the white parts of his eyes are pink, dry cough, stomach ache, mild headache, sore arm muscles, occasional heart pounding, difficulty breathing for a short bit.
I didn't think to mention that my son dressed a deer just after Christmas & refused to wear gloves.
This is one incidence where I hope I don't get the opportunity to say, "I told you!"
I woke up in the middle of the night...having chills, but feel fine otherwise.

Never heard of Tamiflu having an adverse aeffect on Lyme patients. The most popular doc in No CA gives it out to all his Lyme patients of whom I used to be one to keep us from having to deal withregular flu and it worked wonderfully for me. Never a side effect, kept the flu away!!! Was wonderful!!! I miss that doc*!)*! But anyway, lots and lots of the local Lymies around here have taken it because of this same LLMD and i have never heard anything bad about it!!!
Sorry about your son though- Bst wishes, Sarah

Hi Sarah,
That's great news. There are so many oddities with Lyme, I thought I should ask before using it.
My son threw up last night, still had a fever, but was feeling a little better.
He said he had a terrible stiff neck, so now the red flag is raised again.
Does true flu involve vomiting? Wouldn't you just have respiratory symptoms with the muscular aches & pains?

There are lots of different varieties of the "flu" and vomiting is known in lots of them.
Glad to hear that tamiflu works. Can you get it over the counter?

Hi Ann,
This was a prescription.
Call & ask your pharmacist if it's available OTC.

Update: So far no one else has contracted the "flu" in the 8 weeks since my son was sick. He has a lingering cough from the 2nd episode and has some junk in his lungs.
The PCP must think it is Lyme...he prescribed 100 mg doxy twice a day. This is a low dose, and only for 2 weeks.
He hasn't been tested for Lyme or coinfections; he will need the proper treatment if this is Lyme.
