Can someone please tell me about Mepron? I started it on it last week but I am unsure if the side effects I am feeling are part the treatment.
I have tested negative for babs both thru Igenex, and Stoneybrook but have been on abx's both times. My Lyme tests keep coming back positive. Is mepron used for Lyme as well as babs?
I have intestinal cramps and gas which is so uncomfortable. I have been taking Zantac before the dosage but I don't think that is helping. I have no diaherra but just bloating and that feeling like you are digestting a can of baked beans.
Should I be concerned? Overall I am fatiqued and feel a bit achey, spacey but what else is knew. I am having trouble discerning between symptoms of the disease, herx and side effects of the meds. I've been in treatment a year.
Thanks

That almost sounds like yeast to me....
Mepron can cause some gastrointestinal issues, more likely vomiting, diarhea, and nausea.
Have you been watching your diet?
Taking a good probiotic?
I hope this passes for you soon.

Yes, I have been taking 4-5 acidophilis for 1 year. Take them every day. I even throw in a Diflucan here and there is I feel the need.
Would Mepron cause more reason to have yeast? I thought it didn't work like an abx as it is an antimalarial so it never dawned on me that it may be yeast.
Any other ideas?

stiller, what antibiotic are you taking with Mepron? Did you start this antibiotic at the same time as the Mepron?
Are you eating something fatty when you take the Mepron so it will be abosorbed properly?
I agree that Mepron can cause GI issues. These symptoms may improve once your body adjusts to it. For me, Babesiosis caused horrible nausea.
Babesiosis can be tough to eradicate in some cases, but it can be done. Hang in there okay?

Sammi, I am on Ceftin 1000/mg day. I have been on that a few months, and prior to that IV Rocephin for 10 weeks, so that isn't new to the mix. I was having babs like symptoms so my LD decided to go with Mepron.
I do watch my diet. Hardly eat any sugar except what is in some fruit, whole grains, meat, veggies etc.
I've been swallowing a spoon of peanut butter with Mepron.

Hi stiller. It is my understanding that Mepron needs to be taken with Zithromax, Biaxin, or Ketek to work effectively. I suggest researching this and/or speaking with your doctor. If you have to take it, I know you want it to work!
It sounds like your diet is excellent, which is good.

Hi Sammi, yes I know. I was on Zithro and developed an allergeric reaction wihen the dosage was pushed to 500/mg day from 250. The doctor took me off of it and just continued with Ceftin after an allergy test. I'm sure he is letting my system rest from the Zithro for a few weeks and plans on putting me back on....he just wants to get the Mepron started. I am very sensitive to these meds and seem to be more so as my body gets more battered from them.

Be careful with Mepron. It messed with my liver and gallbladder. Take milk thistle to protect your liver while you're on it.
