I would love to hear if your child took Malarone and if it helped. If so, what was your child's age?

Did your child also try Mepron? If so, which worked better?

Thanks,

tickbattler

I'm not a child, but for me, Mepron worked infinitely better than Malarone did.

Tickbattler,

Yes, my son is on Malarone.

He is 7 this month.

He has been on it 6 weeks.

It is a hefty dose.

Is it helping...I think so.

His night sweats are better. His cough is gone. He still has a heated head but I think it has improved.

I think it works better in Babs Dunc.

I am not sure my son has that which is why I think Mepron should be our next choice as his script runs out in 3 weeks.

He tested pos antibody for microti at 2 years of age and Doc J never treated.

Mepron is better for Microti. Doc J says are dose is high enough where Microti is getting dealt with.

I think maybe not. Mep could be higher and liver, kidneys could use a break from high Malarone.

Make Malarone too high you fry these structures with little Microti yield.

I'm on the fence right now.

Hope this helps

My daughter took one malarone a day.

She was 6 and weighed slightly under 50lbs.

It definitely helped.

Hugs,

Geneal

My kid (age 13/14) is treating for duncani. Had really good improvement on mepron but hit a plateau after 5 months. LLMD switched to malarone and improvement restarted.

In our case there are coinfections for bartonella and rickettsia. So the initial mepron may have taken care of most of the babesia and malarone was continued almost as a "just-in-case" treatment.

Rifampin was started when the bartonella test came back positive around the 5-month mark.

Mepron has to be given with another antibiotic to prevent the babs from becoming resistant. Zithromax is the standard drug for this. My doctor used tetracycline, then doxy because my kid allergic to zith. Amount of mepron may need to be increased because the tetracycline like drugs block some of the mepron activity.

Of course, supplements like probiotics, are useful. (My kid hasn't had any stomach issues yet!) Certain vitamins and minerals may need to be supplemented as well. Babs apparently depletes the B vitamins in particular.

Total treatment time has been 11 months. Child has gone from a house-bound couch potato to a 90% of normal active teenager.

Best wishes for your kids return to health!

We did not want to give these heavy duty meds to our kids. Our LLMD does not prescribe them.

Tickbattler,

My son had a positive antibody to microti.

Don't know if he has Duncani.

Shosty, how did you make your children well? Did they have Babs and Bart?

Choosing these drugs is not my idea of a great day, but if you found success with other things maybe there are other options.

Please share-
