Is ehrlichiosis easier to get rid of than the other co-infections? Could it be chronic? What are classic ehrlichiosis symptoms? Always had bart and lyme, doc suspects underlying ehrlichia from white blood cell count when I'm on doxy. Thanks for any input.

From what I have been told, it is one of the easier co-infections to get rid of. And yeah, it can be chronic, but a couple of months of Doxy should kill it.
I think that's why a lot of docs use Doxy as the first med, as even if you don't test positive for it, might as well use a Lyme med that hits ehrilichia too, to be safe.
Ehrlichia was the first tickly thing that my labs showed positive for. I'm not sure if it's easier to test for too, or just a coincidence.

For some reason, a lot of people don't think Ehrlichiosis can become chronic, but that's not true. It can, just like any of these other awful diseases...
Dr. B even says that in some cases, it can become chronic.
"While it is true that this illness can have a fulminant presentation, and may even become fatal if not treated, milder forms do exist, as does chronic low-grade infection, especially when other tick-borne organisms are present.
The potential transmission of Ehrlichia during tick bites is the main reason why doxycycline is now the first choice in treating tick bites and early Lyme, before serologies can become positive. When present alone or co-infecting with B. burgdorferi, persistent leukopenia is an important clue. Thrombocytopenia and elevated liver enzymes, common in acute infection, are less often seen in those who are chronically infected, but likewise should not be ignored. Headaches, myalgias, and ongoing fatigue suggest this illness, but are extremely difficult to separate from symptoms caused by Bb."
