I called my llmd yesterday and when he heard that I had a coated tongue he told me to stop doryx (had been taking 300mg a day for the past two weeks), and ordered clotrimazole troche (mycelex)lozenges 1 5xday for 14 days, and Diflucan 200mg 1xday for 7 days, and I am also to continue taking nystatin 2 tabs 2xday.

I have never taken 3 antifungals at the same time and need advice as to how I can space them from each other and/or from probiotics and supplements.

If I have to take clomitrazole 5xday it's going to be tough to space from probiotics and supplements. What's the best way I can do this?

Although I have been on a strict no yeast diet for the past few weeks, would you advise avoiding brown rice, quinoa, and any kind of fruit altogether for the time being?

Thank you!

Antifungals have no effect on the probiotics. You can dose them close.

I don't know how other supplements may effect antifungals.

Also, the antifungals are ok together. The Mycelex will act locally in mouth/upper GI. The Nystatin stays in the GI system and is not systemic.

Diflucan is systemic, meaning it reaches the blood and other tissues.

Plug your meds in here to be certain:

I should add, the antifungals will kill S. boulardii (Florastar) if you are taking that.

I think kitty9309 nailed it down-since you have interrupted the antibiotic you can time things
for your convenience:)

Thanks, Kitty and Beachnit for your advice.

I had not idea that probiotics could be taken with antifungals. Unfortunately I am taking florastor along with theralac and ultra flora so I guess I will have to space them.

Anyone else have any other opinions about this issue?

Someone on this board mentioned on an older post that Florastor should not be taken at all if you are on antifungals. Is this true?

Also can someone please chime in about spacing supplements from antigungals?

Thank you.

Taking the Florastar while also on antifungals (Diflucan and Nystatin) is counter productive, even if you space them.

So, if you stop the antifungals at some point, you can once again take the Florastar.

Don't know about supps and antifungals. I would hazard to guess that there is not an issue.

Kitty, thank you for your post. I am going to discuss this with my well known LLMD in NY as he advised me to take it with 2 other probiotics.
