So...I'm starting Levaquin in September to go after the Bart. But I'm worried about the lyme returning so I'm thinking about going back on 400mg of Doxy while taking Levaquin and pulsing flagyl. My Doc approves.

I'm currently on Biaxin / Amatadine, but these can't be taken with levaquin due to a hazardous heart-related side effect. (no thanks.)

Dr. B's guidelines say Levaquin is usually used alone except for abx in the Tetracycline family (i.e. Doxy.)

Just wondering what other's thoughts were. I hear Levaquin / Doxy is a good combo. But I've been on Doxy for 6 weeks before. I did well on it. But would it be better to try something else?

Haha, on Levaquin only being used with one other abx! I used Levaquin, minocycline, amoxy/probenecid, tindamax, malarone, and lariam together. I took Humaworm without my LLMD's knowledge, at the same time.

Not that I'm recommending it, it was harsh, to say the least, but it did clear my head and muscle pain after about six weeks ..... Mino was one of my favorite abx, doxy was one of my least favorites.

I think it's Biaxin and Levaquin that aren't supposed to be mixed....??

www.drugdigest.com

Maybe someone "cured" on doxy will show up!

My LLMD says that they're starting to find, switching antibiotics every few months is just as effective as taking multiple antibiotics at the same time, in fact it may even be MORE effective because the switching helps kill more of the bugs.

So I wouldn't be too concerned about medication combination: even if you're on one, its going to kill things, and it may turn out that just one abx at a time is even better!

but to answer your question, doxy was extremely effective for me, all on its own. i took it four months, then switched to ceftin and herxed so badly i ended up in the hospital; my LLMD now thinks I may have "proved" the theory about rotating abx one at a time. after ceftin i went on amoxicillin (all the while improving, despite the severe herxes, mind you) and then back on the doxy.

i think one a time is fine... and doxy is very effective for bartonella, which is one of my main problems

hope this was helpeful somehow
