Hey Everyone--

I was wondering if anyone else had a "detox reaction" when they started taking acetyl-l-carnitine? I started it for about a week and a half to help with fatigue and then BAM! I had a rash break out across my chest, felt flu-like, and had aching legs....it felt like a massive mobilization of toxins...

Anyone else have a similar experience? Thanks!

Bugg... is it just acetyl-l-carnitine?

The reason I ask is because I bought a product that is a combo Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) & acetyl-l-carnitine and it kicked my son's butt!

Then, I found out that ALA mobilizes metals out of the brain. Not good for a kid that is most likely metal toxic in his body.

I don't know for sure the ALA was why he got really sick... when you said "it felt like a massive mobilization of toxins..." that's what made me think it might be related. For all I know it could have had something to do with the acetyl-l-carnitine.

The product I am talking about is made by NSI: ALA 600mg ALC 1,000mg

I use the ALA ALCAR combo with no problems. I think it is extremely beneficial.

Maybe you are having a reaction to something in the supplement and need to change brands. Look up possible side effects - I have never heard of any.

How much acetyl l carnitine are you taking? You can take 1000mg per 100 lbs of body weight.

Thanks for the responses...

I took 1000 mg of ALCAR only...I was reading where it can carry waste products from your cells....It made me feel EXACTLY like taking NAC makes me feel....like I'm mobilizing massive amounts of toxins out of my body...This reaction didn't start until about a week into taking it...it's like I became incredibly edgy and then felt profoundly achey all over and that typical rash I get on my chest broke out...

Very Strange.....
