- Infections can destroy the lining of the stomach. So can certain medications and over the counter products. Celiac disease (which often flares with deep infections) also destroys the gut lining.
Some foods, too, destroy the lining of the gut. Carbonated drinks, alcohol, fried foods (especially in old oil) and "fake" foods all pose a risk to the GI tract and our ability to absorb healthy nutrients.
When Rx are necessary to treat life-threatening infections such as lyme, very specific support measure must be taken.
See section here for: Leaky Gut Syndrome: Dysbiosis
"The overgrowth of several toxic bacteria and the yeast, candida, - referred to as dysbiosis - can lead to other medical problems, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
The inflamed bowel can cause "leaky" intestines by allowing protein molecules that should stay in the gut to get into the bodys circulation.
The immune system may develop antibodies to these proteins, and food allergies may result. Dysbiosis is readily and precisely evaluated by a simple stool test. "

This is just a start to information about leaky gut as it applies to lyme patients. Other things to study: PROBIOTICS, DGL, SLIPPERY ELM BARK, GUM MASTIC, etc.
A gluten-free diet is often advised and usually helps tremendously. -

Thanks all. I don't THINK I have either of those conditions. Just everything else.
