200 mg 2X/day. I started the first week at 100 mg 2X/day to let my stomach get used to it. I must take it in the middle of a meal or I get a very raw stomach and nausea.

Start slow, but make sure you work up to 200mg per dose. It's so important to be at a therpeutic dose.

I could only take with a full meal. Otherwise terrible nausea. But with food, no problem.

Best to you.

I thought if you take doxy with food it binds with the food and is not effective? Been on 100mg 2x per day for two months and suffering the nausea cuz was afraid to eat food with it.

I'm going to begin doubling up on does but take with food. Certainly have had no relief with the dose I've been taking, and no real doctor to take me serious yet. (first LLMD will be 2/5th, if I make it that long!)

thanks - good to know that I have not been taking the theraputic dose last 2 months, no wonder symptoms are not better - if anything have become worse.

I have been taking 200 mg (100 mg twice a day) of Doxy for two weeks now and I have felt horrible! I don't know if this is a herx or what, but never felt worse. My tinnitus is out of this world since taking the Doxy, along with everything else.

Can anyone give me a true definition of a herx. I have heard that they should only last a few days and have heard that they could last several weeks. Thanks.

stngray, I've read that it can be as long as months depending on how long you've been harboring the bugs. Can anyone confirm this?

I remember when I began Doxy 2 months ago I did feel a little worse. But only taking 200mg per day. If that "little worse" was a small herx reaction, then I'm still herxing after 2 months cuz certainly have not improved from feeling worse.

Doxy is very powerful. I had to take it in the past and felt like hell for 3 months straight until finally improvement happened. I was on 400mg a day (200mg twice a day). Main problem was bartonella, secondly Lyme.

Right now I'm on Rifampin alone to get the bart levels down and then will be adding Doxycycline in two weeks, also at just 100mg twice a day because of the real risk of herxing myself to the ER...

You definitely have to take it with food. I took it with food and still herxed like the devil several hours later when it reaches peak absorption. It's very effective for bartonella, though, as well as Lyme and mycoplasma and.. well, the plague, lol.
