Any thoughts on how?

I did lemon water. It was great...helped with herx and neuro symptoms. However, in less than a week it permanently eroded the tooth enamel on the interior of my teeth. Guess it isn't compatible with some people's teeth.

Thanks Keebler, I usually try my best but will have to try harder.

I have read that animal protein is bad and leads to body acidity, which the bb love. Unfortunately I've had trouble avoiding it, and have figured that more protein is better than the carbs I'm cutting out. I guess they're both bad for their own reasons.

Oh brother. And all my friends at school eat total crap...and the school veggy options are pretty uninventive.

By true definition, carbohydrates are not bad at all. We need them to live. However, think of carbohydrates as they were before supermarkets were even on the earth and before processed foods were, well, processed.

Vegetables. Fruits. Grains. There you have it - and stop with that. Complex carbohydrates as nature intended and food for every cell of our body.

Animal protein has saved my life. I tried for many years to be vegetarian. I just need animal protein. I do better with wild fish and humanely raised and free range beef, buffalo, lamb, chicken (and eggs) for at least one meal a day - but also rely on plant protein for others.

Grass fed animals are best for body chemistry. Oh, but you say you are a (college) student (?). Get to know where the Buddhist students eat. They should know where the good vegetarian food is. Also seek out all the ethnic groups for a variety of more authentic foods.

Protein helps our bodies make glutathione and that helps the liver detox . . . protein's amino acids help our brain, our hearts, our muscles, etc.

Taurine (found mostly in muscle meats) is vital, too. Vegetarians and vegans should consider supplementing taurine, as well as B-12 and L-Carnitine.

Interesting. Thanks for that perspective on animal protein, very helpful.

Yes - college student. I'll keep searching for those veggie options. If only tofu was a consistent part of the dining vocabulary on campus.

Tofu is cheap. Do you have access to a fridge in the dorm? Surely there is a market nearby. Tofu with nutritional yeast, sea salt, garlic powder, a dash of cayenne - add frozen peas and you've got a meal for anytime of the day. No cooking. Add olive oil.

Take with you (frozen peas will keep it cold a while) or eat right there. The peas thaw very fast.

Get a strong plastic container to store left-over tofu in water. change water daily.

Forcing alkalinity is not a good idea. Some toxic substances, i.e. toxic heavy metals, etc, only go into solution to be excreted in an acidic environment. As you cause bacterial and other pathogenic die-off, other toxins are mobilized and should be detoxed.

Dr.K. tells that "he has never seen a healthy vegetarian". Complex carbohydrates, emphasis on complex, keep the brain alive and proteins are needed for detoxing.

Take care.

Some people use baking soda in water. I've read varying things about it. Some say it's not good to do for a long time because it kills the stomach acids which we need to digest food.

Some people claim it cures cancer, though...

I've also read that the body creates it's own acid/alkaline balance & that the whole idea is bunk... but it may help temporarily if you are herxing & you don't feel well.

Some people use Alka Selzer (with or without aspirin - Gold, I think it's called) to make the body more alkaline, too.

My LLMD recommended Sodium Bicarbonate for herxes. It is supposed to have an alkalizing effect like lemon juice.

It is super cheap, less than a dollar at walmart for a box of 14 packets/doses. You might have to ask the pharmacist where it is located because I found it at bottom of the shelf near the antacids.

I've heard using a straw for lemon water is good to help avoid so much contact with your teeth.

Would something like this help?

Peelu, Body Rescue, pH Protector Drops
http://www.iherb.com/Peelu-Body-Rescue-pH-Protector-Drops-1-25-fl-oz-37-5-ml/10633?at=0

I found this when I was looking for an alternative to Kangen Water, which also alkalizes the body.

I have not tried it, but I intend to.

jar jar -

that is a great and ingenious solution. unfortunately, given the enamel erosion i've experienced, im not even sure i want to mess with that.

Sodium Bicarbonate does sound promising, although I am not weary of alkalinity given what GiGi has said - metals and toxins are a big concern of mine. we'll see how these herxs feel in the coming weeks.

Was the primary idea behind lemon water to detoxify or was it to create a less inhabitable environment for BB?

Trace Minerals added to pure water and a very healthy diet will do the trick.

I think it's all about balance. PH is not an absolute, and neither is any body chemistry. It's a matter of striking hte right balance, for you.

Sugars will contribute to acid ash residue in the body, writes Linda Rector Page ND in her book Healthy Healing.

According to her, so do animal proteins. Professional opinions always vary, I have consistently found that to be the case. Once again, it's a different balance to be struck, for each person and their own body types. I think honoring your body type is what is key.

Interesting what Dr K says about never having seen a healthy vegetarian. I wonder what he means by that. I have seen lots of them, if they know how to balance their diets. But then again, I am not a doctor and surely few docs are of Dr K's caliber. It would be interesting to see what he has to say about it, and why.

Linda Rector Page, ND in her book Healthy Healing, has lots of information about alkalizing, detoxing and juicing, should it interest you.

I purchased my own copy because it's so handy to have around as reference source. Anytime, you can look up a page about almost any ailment under the sun, and what to do about it, in a one-page quick -glance format, with naturopathics as the remedy. Lots of nutritional info. Really great book to have.

When I was bad I used these products:

http://www.alkavision.com/?gclid=CN6665H3vKcCFYvsKgodMSrBAQ

I put the green stuff in my fruit smoothies.

But the Trace Mineral drops is probably a better idea. I always have those on hand since I use reverse osmosis water.
