I've heard that it is a zinc deficiency when you get this taste.

I get this quite often. I haven't been officially diagnosed with lyme, but this was one of the symptoms I told my doctor at my physical that spurred him to order a lyme test for my bloodwork.

I've got this too right now. Theories I've heard: kidneys and ammonia buildup. So, detox for both is what I'm working on. Pekana Renelix for kidneys, and I'm going to try l-ornithine for ammonia.

Likely not a zinc deficiency in my case, as I've been doing KPU protocol, taking high dose zinc, for nearly 2 years.

In my opinion, the metallic taste is an indication of heavy metals circulating in the body. You need to have binders in place to carry them out. I use bentonite clay, apple pectin, oral DMSA and diatomaceous earth

You may want to try oil pulling. http://www.oilpulling.com

I did this and have managed to clear something... whether it was a mercury allergy or a bartonella episode, I will never know. I broke out with mouth sores all over my mouth when I first started oil pulling. Day 1, I had a few. Day 2, I had a mouth full.

I know, doesn't sound pleasant or make you want to try it - but in my eyes, this was a good thing... I was a little scared when it was happening to me. But I figured I was clearing something. The only way out is through. I kept doing the oil pulling and 5 days later, no more sores.

I still oil pull and I believe it helps keep the toxins from circulating through the body. You spit them out with the oil.

I think ammonia is the waste from the pathogens/ toxins in our bodies. Some days in the fir sauna, ammonia is all I smell. Yuck!

May health be with you!

Toxic mold was suppressing our immune systems, causing extreme pain, brain fog and magnifying symptoms. Four days after moving out, the healing began.

Heavy metals can cause a metallic taste. My LLMD told me that heavy metals are released when borrelia dies.

I think it's ammonia that is released when they die (bb deaths means proteins break up, which means ammonia...) Anybody tried detoxing the brain from ammonia? Any idea what would work?

Lymetutu- I am taking Biaxin, took one dose and had the nastiest taste in my mouth. It wasn't metallic but more like the medication taste. It tasted as if I had just chewed the pills up instead of swallowing them. I feel like I have been poisoned. Is this normal?

jadams .. Sounds really yucky. Make sure you are drinking lots of water with it. Whenever I had that metallic taste I would drink more water. If you continue to have trouble, call your pharmacist.

nhlymeguy .. I don't know what's up with the metallic taste then. You did receive some ideas above that may explain it.

I would look into complex partial seizures...seriously.

I was getting pressure at the base of my skull, combined with a metallic or chemical taste, and then occasional dizzy spells. I blew off the dizzy spells as just that...dizzy spells...until I crashed my car this past December.

The dizzy spells were complex partial seizures.

Is the pressure at the base of your skull, up the back of your head?

I've had a metallic taste on and off for years with the illness; it was worse before amalgam removal 11 years ago.

Last week I did a DMSA challenge urine test for toxic metals and have been tasting the metals again a lot since, so to me it makes sense that heavy metal release into the bloodstream may be the cause.
