lately i've had a mild sore throat, feels like i can't swallow and i burp a lot. food feels like it won't go down and i often have to drink something to get it to go down.

feels like my throat is swollen or something.

pretty sure it might be reflux or gerd or something. i've got otv prilosec and might take that for two weeks.

don't have a gastro so will be looking for a new one. i'm sure my gp won't help..

what did you do?

If you have reflux, one of the biggest signs is that you are constantly swallowing, because stomach juice keeps coming up your esophagus. But some people have "lighter" reflux and they just feel a constant heartburn or warmth in their chest.

I wouldn't take the prilosec. That'll make the disease eventually worse. It'll feel better for a while, but then it'll become worse, and then you'll be addicted because you'll burn every time you try to stop the pills.

The best therapy for acid reflux is actually adding more acid to your stomach, like Betain HCL and/or pepsin. It takes too long to explain, but most cases of GERD are actually caused by stomachs that don't have enough acid in them.

This is a great product that contains both betain and pepsin, plus digestive enzymes which would also be beneficial:
http://www.amazon.com/Twinlab-Enzyme-Maximum-Strength-Capsules/dp/B000GCAVH4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1306347136&sr=8-5

Also it helps a lot if you eat a healthier diet. I highly recommend the "Proper Food Combining Diet". You can learn about it on the internet. It cures over 90% of GERD cases in less than 2 months.

Anyway I'm not a doctor, I'm just giving my advice.

I have just began having issues like this again (had them last year).

The only thing i've done is started treating for Babesia. Im thinking they are related.

I have the feeling like food won't go down also, like its stuck near my diaphragm. Many years ago I was told I have Hiatal Hernia.

This can cause all of those symptoms especially acid reflux as well as shortness of breath. I found a thread on here about this and someone went to a chiropractor and had a visceral manipulation done do push the stomach back down. I just did this today and so far I can breathe better. I burp after everything I eat also, so for me its a combo of hernia and acid reflux.

Im not on anything for the reflux but I heard slippery elm powder helps the digestive tract and I am buying L-glutamine which is supposed to bring down inflammation in the stomach. Both have reviews on iherb that helped acid reflux/hernia. Good Luck!

I sleep with a few more pillows and keep my body at an angle. I always sleep on my left too since this also helps with this.

I definitely do not have as big as a problem with GERD as I use to. It's pretty much gone away with treatment. Though, I'm not out of the woods yet on everything, but a whole lot of things have gone away.

I've never tried adding the acid. Six does this and it works for her. Prilosec makes no sense to me. My GI said I should be on it for the rest of my life due to the American diet. HA

I have acid reflux as an allergy symptom, especially when I'm exposed to sulfite preservatives. If I avoid sulfites, I do not have acid reflux. Vinegar is loaded with sulfites, which would make my acid reflux worse. Taking HCl causes severe, burning stabbing pain in my stomach. Also, my acid reflux responds best to allergy avoidance (sulfites, gluten, soy, etc.)...and I get very little (if any) help from the acid-reducing meds like Prilosec or Pepcid.

So not all acid reflux is from stomach acid deficiency -- it can be from allergies.

I forgot to mention..I think you had a post about tongue thrush and how it wouldnt go away. If it wasn't you then just ignore this, but I had what looked like thrush and when I calmed the acid in my stomach with baking soda and water it started to go away. I think it is due to acid reflux and stuff coming up into the mouth.

It helps not to eat anything after dinner and drink alot of water. The abx really irritate my stomach so I take pepcid when it get bad.

My GI guy said be careful of contant acid reflux, it can cause throat cancer. Great!!!

It can also be related to poor/slow stomach emptying time. Lyme causes gastroparesis due to damage to the vagal nerve.

You can do a search on Lymenet on gastroparesis for a lot of info.

I've been dealing with it fcr six months... diagnosed by a gastric emptying study.

Iberogast is a better mix:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iberogast

Google this and you'll find places to purchase it. I haven't tried it because I'm allergic to some of the ingredients, but many in the Gastroparesis support community say it is helpful for all sorts of stomach symptoms (acid reflux, nausea, fullness, indigestion).

Since it is unclear whether the Licorice has had the component removed that can raise blood pressure (i.e., I don't know if they used DGL in this product), it is probably good to either only use this product as needed, or take it intermittantly (such as take it for 2 weeks and then stop for 2 weeks, then take it again for 2 weeks, etc.).

I too have Gastroparesis thought to be a result of GI Lyme.
