Just wondering. I am probably on the upper edge of "normal" weight......but I just cannot lose weight. Really, not will not or haven't tried, but unless I starve myself no weight will come off.
I have read that this is associated with Lyme but why? It actually gives me a little hope because in all the other illnesses that the drs. have looked at they look for weight loss...and since I haven't lost weight I am not of a concern to them.
Thanks

Weight loss and Weight gain. It's likely the result of hormonal irregularity caused by the infection. When hormones are either in short supply or over produced, the effects don't go unnoticed.

I lost 25 pounds, got down to 102.....too skinny. Then I started taking a psych med that causes weight gain and gained it all back within about 4 months, (and maybe a few pounds to boot). I am wondering what is going to happen to my weight when I stop this medication.
Everyone seems to either gain or loose!

Toxicity. The body stores fat to have a storage place for excess toxins. Thyroid, other hormones, etc. are all reasonable possibilities as well.

It's strange just last week was a thread about weight gain. Everyone that posted was 25-30 lbs almost all in the gut area.
I posted that this fat is to protect organs like liver, spleen, gall bladder, kidneys from the toxins.
Over the years I've seen post by some that weight loss was big issue, some of these people were walking skeletons and others of us walk around with elastic in our waist of pants or we're unbuttoned.
I had lost my gut fat after coming off abx and doing major detoxing. My gut came back about 2 yrs ago. Literally woke up one morning in summer and none of my shorts/capris would button around my middle. I felt pregnant and about 6-7 mths.
I had to go buy new capris, one size larger for the waist. Saggy butt but no choice. I believe it was menopausal sx for me. My gyn did ultra sounds to make sure there wasn't ovary tumors.
But it also could of been a wacky hypothyroid gland that's been dead for years and my immune system is now attacking it.
I think some lyme bacteria is hiding out in the dead thyroid, no blood vessels equals no oxygen, and that's why my immune system is attacking it.
Also ticks think that I'm their best friend. Could be that I got some toxic load of something in my GI and again fat build up for protection.
I've found someone in the last 3 mths that does great body work on me, I'm focusing on detoxing and I'm post menopausal now so it seems to be falling off the middle.
Trying to knock Bart off and he seems to enjoy my GI tract. Wow, I just thought about the fact that a large % of immune system is in the GI track????
It's like a 50,000 piece puzzle.

I did EDS recently and she said I was the most toxic person she's had in quite a while. She sounded really wowed by what she was seeing.
I feel like a big fat cow, too. Since I've been sick I've gained 30 lbs and it keeps creeping up.
I have to literally not eat in order to lose anything.

Funny thing is I recently had a spiral CT (to look for pumonary embolism b/c of shortness of breath and irregular heartbeat). It came back "normal" except for "fatty deposits" on the liver. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. That makes more sense now.
I have had my thyroid tested multiple times. It is apparently fine. I didn't know about toxicity. Need to get into a LLMD soon.
This morning I woke up, stepped out of bed and got dizzy and feel on the floor. Scary. Very dizzy today.

Read the book "Clean" by A. Junger, MD.
I am reading it now and weight gain can be caused by the toxins we are holding onto. If you fast while toxic you can cause some serious damage to yourself.
There are ways to help the body to get clean... fasting is not a good idea! The toxins will be released too quickly and will not have a way to get out. Therefore, they will recirculate and find another place to make home.
Since toxins like fatty tissue, their favorite place is the brain. So if you fast and don't have an exit plan for the toxins, they may relocate to your brain.
Since I have moved out of my house, my pants have gotten too big for me... they are falling down. I am eating the same as I was when I was living in my house... but my house was full of mold.
Toxins cause weight gain. Get rid of the toxins (safely) and you will be able to get rid of the weight easily.
Dr. S, who wrote "Mold Warriors" mentions weight gain and the inability to lose weight having to do with mold in his new book "Surviving Mold"
-------------------- May health be with you!
Toxic mold was suppressing our immune systems, causing extreme pain, brain fog and magnifying symptoms. Four days after moving out, the healing began. Posts: 2007 | From NY/VT Border | Registered: Aug 2010

Another possibility would be Babesia. Babesia causes either weight gain or loss.

well, i've turned into fatty, fatty two x four, too!
I've gained 30 pounds since Jan of 2010. All in the gut region. My arms still look well muscled and normal wt. as do 3/4 of my legs. my upper thighs have also grown.
I eat very little. A nutritional shake for breakfast..a few nuts for lunch. and small portions of lean protein and veggies for dinner.
I should be losing wt. like crazy, but instead, it is gradually creeping up- still!!
I have also had periods when I lost large amts. of weight, without diet change. Once on IV rocephin 20+ pounds and once before tx. with severe anxiety....
toxins, infection, hormones...all can be accountable...
At this moment, I have never been so uncomfortable in my life. I continue to tell my doctors that this is not normal and defies reasoning...no one has an answer for me...
Thank g_d for stretchy waist bands...*sigh*

I have been off of abx for over a year. Currently using B.W. products. I have been steadily gaining weight over the last year despite feeling really well. Never thought of toxins before.

It all sound familiar! I had gained some weight in the belly area....but I had a hysterectomy in September (fibroids) and that did help. Helped with the anemia as well, but not the weight. Mine isn't as extreme, 10 lbs or so, but it won't budge no matter what I eat or don't eat.
I tried the cinch diet, good foods and the first 5 days are "detox" days where you eat almonds, spinach, yogurt, raspberries and egg in various combinations. You are supposed to lose 9 lbs guaranteed in the first part. My neighbor (I found out later) lost 10 lbs in that time. When I tried it I lost 1 lb if that bc my scale fluctuates. Mine is in my thighs and posterior. Hoping there is something I can do. All this takes a toll on your self esteem without making you feel uncomfortable with your weight to boot.
Hugs to all dealing with either side of this issue.
