I take glycine, generic restoral and gabapentin to help me sleep.
I am thankful for the sleep as I went years without getting sleep or getting very little.
STarted getting sleep once the gabapentin was added. Just glycine and restoral alone did not work.
But, I don't wake up clear headed...truth be told it is rare I am clear headed.
I was taking excedrin to help get me going in the morning.
But, for some reason I have not needed that lately....several things changed of course...different abx, different supplements.
So, trying to figure out if there is a way to not be so fogged in when I wake up in the mornings now that the head stuff is more do able and the morning pain.
Cutting back on something I use to go to sleep perhaps?
less glycine? less gabapatin?
I take 3 glycine, 3 gabapatin, 1 generic restoril
I also try and add Vit C and mag at night too.

I felt all prescription meds for sleep made me drugged in addition.
Now I take 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) and I get thru the nite and don't feel drugged. I take 50mg, but you can go up to 100mg. You can get it OTC at Whole Foods or internet. It's the best sleep med I've ever taken.
I heard an herbalist at a lecture say, you can also add GABA(?dose), which is also OTC.

Heart...I tried 5 HTP a long time ago when I had lyme and wasn't able to sleep.
I believe the really bad nightmares were caused by the 5HTP...and I still slept very little during the night.
It seems I recall that it does have this affect on some people.
Glad it helped you.

Kam I had the same reaction to 5-htp. I had been told it would help me sleep and my dr even agreed it would be a great addition to the supplements I was already taking. I had such a hard time going to sleep when I was on it and had crazy dreams.
Have you tried Ginko Biloba for the brain fog? It helps me but I have to take it first thing in the morning because if I take it later in the day I can't sleep.
I know everything works differently in different people, I hope you find what works for you!

I have used a touch of ritalin in the morning really helped my fog. It is a stimulant, and so is caffeine in your excedrin. Maybe that would help? I dont think its very expensive. Also welbutrin seems to clear the fog too.... good luck

Adding that to the list when I see my Primary CAre doc.
Getting up now to take the ginko. I usually wait until I have breakfast around 10 am to take it.
hadn't thought of taking it 1st thing. I usually wake a little before sunrise.
But, not functioning well enough to eat breakfast until around 10 am.
Before this hit, breakfast was the first thing ...I think...or was it a shower?
