This question is for anyone who has had a LLMD prescribe Amoxicillin to them:

How many milligrams per day of amoxicillin did your LLMD recommend that you take?

I know that Dr. Burrascano suggests to take between 1 gram and 3 grams a day, but I wonder if most LLMDs actually follow such high dosages.

(Please don't tell me "just ask your doctor". There's a reason why I'm asking this.)

There is a test that can be done to see if there's enough of it in your bloodstream. It's called a "peak level" test. I believe most LLMD's do follow such high doses.

People can send you their dosages in PM's, but they'd probably like to know what your "reason" is first. Most are pretty protective of their LLMD's.

On page 18 of Burrascano, he gives the dosage. It is not 1 gram per day. Here it is:

"*Amoxicillin- Adults: 1g q8h plus probenecid 500mg q8h; doses up to 6 grams daily are
often needed"

And, on page 14 he says:

"Because of its short half-life and need for high levels, amoxicillin is usually administered along with probenecid."

Translated, this is "1 gram every 8 hours plus probenecid 500 mg every 8 hours; up to 6 grams daily often needed."

So, he is calling for a minimum of 3 grams per day.

I took 17,500 mgs---20- 875mg tablets. You can go way up on amox and need to in order to pass the BBB.

Thanks a lot for the answers! I just wanted to make sure that others were taking high dosages.

And actually I made a mistake when I wrote "1 and 3 grams" in the original post. I knew Dr B said between 3-6, but I don't know where my mind was when I was writing! [Smile]
