Having started my second week on doxy, the nausea is better but I am so, so tired. Is this a herx or a side effect of the doxy?

An unexpected happy surprise - my blepharitis has nearly been resolved. I was having horrible gritty eyes and very dry eyes at night. Now they seem almost normal. Does Lyme cause blepharitis symptoms? I don't remember that symptom being related to Lyme but I know Lyme affects the eyes in different ways.

I get really tired when I herx. I took Zith and for the first 2 weeks on it, I slept all day and night! This was a herx symptom for me. Eye issues can be symptoms of Lyme and co-infections for sure! It could be just from the Lyme but Bartonella can also cause eye issues.

Lyme disease caused terrible dry eye and dry mouth for me.

Good lyme treatment got rid of both.

The eye doctor diagnosed me and wanted to block up my tear drains to hold in the small amount of tears that I had. I didn't do it.

What a pleasant surprise when I got diagnosed with lyme and my dry eye cleared up! So did dry mouth and all the other places I was dry.

I just want to mention that my 2 years of lousy lyme treatment did not clear up the dry eye/mouth. But, when I got Burrascano type treatment, my dry eye, dry mouth, and false menopause all went away!

So happy for you, Country Mouse. May good things continue to happen for you!

Thanks for the info! This is great news. I was at the point with the dry eye that it was giving me "foggy" vision for about an hour after waking up, and that scared me.

TF glad to hear that your problems were fixed with proper treatment! It gives me continued hope that things will turn around for me [Smile]

Ok new herx...had a panic attack today driving on the highway. I was fine one minute then the next I was white knuckling it down the road. Now just a minute ago I felt like I couldn't breathe and felt like I was going to get another panic attack, this time sitting on my couch. I am assuming this is related to treatment, starting to kill things off. I do not like this herx though!

Oh and I found another deer tick nymph attached to me between my fingers today. So much for weeding yesterday. In baggies attached to the fridge, I have in fact kept all this year's ticks - had anyone had their ticks tested?

People who get lyme are often tick magnets. The ticks actually come after us. We are not like other people. We make pheromones that attract both ticks and mosquitos. I have heard this said by a few famous lyme doctors, and it is definitely true of me.

So, you may need to consider eliminating gardening and other high risk behaviors.

If you do any, you are taking a big risk. Have to use tick repellant all over and then do a thorough tick check when you are finished. Still, no guarantee that you found all the ticks.

We lymies are not like other people. It is sad, because I used to be an avid gardener. I have had to give it up. Too many episodes like what you describe.

Nothing is worth chancing getting this horrendous disease back.

I know TF you are probably right. My husband was out weeding with me and had no ticks on him at all. And it has been that way for years...I always find at least 3 a year on me and he never seems to have any.

I am a wetlands conservationist studying to be an environmental scientist, and spend most of my time outside. My job is my passion and without it I think I would die. Taking the AB which keeps me inside and out of the sun has been so hard. I know I have to learn to balance out the dangers of the tick repellant versus Lyme, every time I go outside now. I try not to use the poison but at this point I guess I need it every single time. Ugh.

Why don't you use Repel's Lemon Eucalyptus instead of DEET? Studies have shown that the lemon eucalyptus is just as effective against ticks as 30% DEET. Even the CDC confirmed this. (surprise!).

I get mine from Amazon.

BTW another great solution (chemical free) is full-body insect netting. I use that sometimes too. It's very effective. Plus if you're taking doxy it'll help protect you from the sun as well.

The other solution is insect-repellent clothing. Either you could find the "Insect Shield" stuff, or just make your own by spraying permithrins on your clothes. You'd have to study it before doing it to make sure you're putting it on correctly, but after it's dry it's very non-toxic (from what I've read).

My lyme doc recommends Avon Skin So Soft. But, you have to put it everywhere! You can't just do your arms, for example. You have to do your legs, feet, neck, etc.

And, it won't be on your clothing, so they will still come after you.

So, chances are, you can still get a tick on you.

Mouse - I get everything from Amazon. It's all free shipping, so why not?

Too bad they don't have fresh produce - otherwise I'd never have to go to any stores! [Smile]

I use the Avon Skin So Soft sunscreen/insect repellent, too. Like TF, I'm a mosquito magnet. I never did see the tick that gave me Lyme. I suspect it may have been a mosquito, but we do have deer in the neigborhood.

You can order the repellent online from Avon. It really helps with mosquitoes. However, if I forget a spot, the mosquitoes will find it.

I don't wear shorts or halter tops outside anymore. I make sure I'm not that accessible to insects.

I, too, used to have a vegetable garden and a beautiful flower garden. Now, I let my husband do the weeding, etc. Insects don't seem to like him too much. I have hanging plants instead.
