I'm not pregnant, but someone I know might be, who also may have lyme. She wants to do herbal only. Is this possible w/o the baby being infected?
I've heard amox is good while pregnant, never read about herbs though.

This is such a tough decision. I've read a lot and I don't think I would be comfortable with herbs to protect the baby. There just isn't enough info on it. It would be ideal to do herbs.
I come from a family though where both my sister and I passed Lyme disease onto our children. It really stinks right now for all the kids.I personally would do antibiotics.

Hey FC,
I once read the heartfelt words of a young girl who was born with Lyme disease. She posted here years ago.
She said if she would have had a choice, knowing what she has had to go through after being born with Lyme, she would have chosen to not be born at all.
If that doesn't break your heart, nothing will. It just about destroyed me to hear it.
So, in MY opinion... and speaking for the child who can not speak for itself....
Dear Mom,
You can play with a deck of cards or play with a toy car. You can play with balloons or even a paint-by-number set. You can NOT play with your child's life.
Amen.
We can not encourage females with Lyme who want to experiment with herbs while pregnant to do so. This is NOT the time to try to be our own doctor.
The fact is... if there were herbs that could cure Lyme disease, none of us would be here now. In fact, we don't have any known universal cures, including with antibiotics.
We certainly do not have any conclusive documented studies indicating herbs can cure Lyme in any stage and/or that a child would be safe if a mother took them for Lyme while pregnant.
In my opinion, she should get to the best doctor we have ASAP and do what we know has worked for some Lyme mothers and their babies in the past.
And pray. Pray a lot for the precious child she is carrying.
Self-treating with herbs that have no proven ability to do anything helpful, and which could be tragically harmful, is not cool at all.
If I sound crabby, I am sorry, but I am. (But NOT at you or the mom, just the suffering of so many children that we have witnessed.)
And like others, I never, ever, ever want to hear about another child wishing they would have never been born because of the tremendous suffering they have been through.
Or hear of another adult killing themselves because they have suffered so much with Lyme, or any other disease.
Please encourage her to forget the herbs and experimenting. Please be sure she gets the best help possible.
I told her about herbal BW formulas because I knew she suspected she could have lyme (even though she had a negative test at the dr office, i don't believe it was a western blot).
All she replied back (we were on facebook) was "It's hard to treat while pregnant? Going to hold off for a couple months"
So, I don't know if that means she IS pregnant. And if she IS....
it sounds to me she is thinking she shouldn't be treating at all!
She used to live in SD and moved to WI where here daughter contracted Lyme she said. The mother is having neuro issues pop up so she also suspects Lyme.
We aren't best buds or anything, so I don't want to appear pushy to her. But maybe I'll copy and paste some of this to reconfirm what I sent her in a message already yesterday.
I just don't want to sound like an @$$ if she isn't prego

Ok...so I got on FB to share the info with her and I'm glad I did. Saw a post that she had to go to the ER last night with a baby scare. She and the baby are ok, but I sent her 3 long messages with Burrascano info on lyme and pregnancy.
I don't care if I look like an @$$ I just want her to get help. So I dun my best!
"I just got through with another pregnancy, a friend of mine from Canada, she was positive for Lyme Disease. And we put her on the herbal treatment, ignoring all the herbal rules; we put her on PC-Samento which is not allowed during pregnancy; we put her on PC -Noni which is not allowed during pregnancy ----- nothing is allowed during pregnancy, but if you dont treat it, you have a crippled child, or a crippled adult if it makes it into adulthood. The herbal treatments have turned out to be extremely safe, the herbal treatments that I am recommending, and have worked beautifully in accompanying the pregnancy."

From the talk given my Burrascano at the CALDA conference he said it was important to use abx during the first trimester to prevent transmission to the baby. He said there are very safe abx to use. I don't remember if he said which ones because it was no relevant to me.
But I agree wholeheartedly with Tincup. I would not even get involved suggesting herbs that might prevent infections because they won't. It is going beyond false hope. It is irresponsible. I would tell the mother to see an LLMD to get such recommendations - She needs to make an informed decision.

My doctor near the WI border treats with 2 antibiotics with his pregnant patients. Not sure which ones, but both are safe.

I have to agree with TC on getting to an LLMD to get dx and get started on some abx ASAP.
She can incorporate herbs later if the doctor thinks they are safe.
FYI, WORMWOOD IS CONTRAINDICATED for a pregnant woman, and if Byron Whites herbs have that, it wouldn't be safe.
A professional herbalist/Naturopathic Doctor in conjunction with an LLMD down the road might be a good idea, providing he/she know what they are doing.

I wasn't suggesting she take BW herbs while pregnant. I was suggesting them to her because I didn't know she was pregnant. As soon as I figured out she is preg, I suggested she start on some safe abx and forwarded her the info in Burrascano's guidelines.
Haven't heard from her, I'm sure she is probably a little overwhelmed with choices and info and may be a bit scared and unsure. The important thing is at least she got the information. Up to her whatever she chooses now.
