I'm being treated for meningitis with rocephin and flagyl and it seems like all the pain that was in my head, neck, and spine has migrated to my face, arms and legs.

I feel like all my joints have knives stuck in them. I took my kids miniature golfing today and thought I would die from the pain. I was hiding my tears from them.

I normally take 3 Advil, oxycodone, and Valium to ease my severe pain, but right now this barely makes a dent. I don't want to live like this, but I want to live and have fun with my family so badly.

Money is really tight now. Do any of you have ideas to help me with this level of pain? The only pain management clinic in my town is not Lyme-friendly. I'm a bit nervous to ask my NP for help, but she is open to suggestions about Lyme symptom management.

I've thought of acupuncture, but is it very expensive?

I'm sorry I haven't been on the forum much these past few months. Forgive me for my absence. I've been dealing with a lot of stuff, including my dad's cancer and my son's continued temporary housing issue which seems to have no end.

Thank you and I send out my love to you all!

I'm so sorry you are suffering so much! I wonder if the flagyl is causing nerve pain? Be careful with that!!!

Acupuncture is not any more expensive than chiropractic .. at least where I live.

Google LDN - low dose naltrexone. It is supposed to be very effective at lowering pain. It stimulates your bodies production of endorphins which are natural pain killers, and also boosts the immune system and decrease inflammation.

It needs to be compounded but is very cheap. I am going to the doctor tomorrow and intend to get a scrip for it.

Acupunture does the same thing - boosts endorphins. It is more temporary. You can also boost endorphins with aerobic exercise (which most of us can't do) and meditation. But only LDN has a 24 hour effect. Most endorphins are created between 2 and 4 AM so you take it at bed time. The only side effect is some people experience temporary insomnia the first week and vivid dreams.

It has also been used to treat AIDS, cancer, MS, Crohn's, ALS, fibromyalgia, RA and diabetes.

I hope you find something to help.

Julie, I am new here, but I so feel your pain and wanted to offer you a gentle hug.

The only thing I can suggest is give in to the pain a bit. If you have to sleep, sleep. if you can't do it all.. don't. Do what you can.

I hope you feel better soon.

Julie- a potential resource for low cost acupuncture:

http://www.communityacupuncturenetwork.org/

check it out and see if there is one near you. I have used one near me for some help with headaches.

I hope you feel better soon...
