My daughter has Charcot-Leyden Crystals in her stool via results from a parasite lab test in AZ.
Not that we Lymies have stool tests as part of our workup, but has anyone ever been told that they have these crystals before?
I've read what I could on the internet (from e. histolitica, parasites, asthma, allergic reaction, etc.) but was wondering if this could also be possibly Lyme related.
Just wondering and trying to crack her code...for the last 5 years!!!

Hubby had this show up many years ago on the old Great Smokies CDSA (comprehensive digestive stool analysis) test.
We were told that it indicated long term parasite infection -- meaning G.I. parasites.
Another lab did find ascaris and giardia and a couple of other parasites.
Do not think the test result has any significance regarding lyme status.
Many people have intestional parasites. Some have major symptoms and others are asymptomatic. Hubby had major G.I. issues. I also tested positive for giardia but had no symptoms at the time.
I would probably assume that other family members could also have parasites and would treat everyone in the family. Very strong herbs or meds may be required.

Charcot-Leyden Crystals are a breakdown product of eosinophils (eosinophils are one of the 5 main types of white blood cells). Anything that activates eosinophils in the gut can cause them to appear. Conditions in which activated eosinophils are known to occur in the gut includes:
Parasites Food Allergies Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders Celiac Disease IBD - Crohn's, Colitis Fungal infections - significant/long-standing gut overgrowth of candida or non-candida yeast...
Until these conditions are ruled out and/or adequately treated, there isn't really any way to specifically connect the Charcot-Leyden Crystals with Lyme.
