Hi All, Keebler mentioned curcumin as an alternative to NSAIDs for inflammation in another thread. A friend at work also mentioned bromelain.
I was wondering if you can take it as you would an NSAID, just when you need it, or if you have to take it all the time to be effective?

I take it in the form of turmeric tincture, only when I need it. We all swear by it. I'm a pilates instructor, and when I overdo the pilates, the turmeric helps very, very quickly.
My kids swear it helps within 5 minutes. I think it does, too.
So yeah, take it when you need it, but it doesn't hurt to take more often, it's good for you.

I take it 3x a day for uveitis (inflammation within the eye) caused by Lyme. I need to have surgery to repair the damage Lyme did but the inflammation has to be controlled first. (my ophth. is also waiting for me to get beyond the acute phaase of treatment)
I haven't tried it as a pain reliever, though.
I see the ophth. tomorrow. We'll see then if the curcumin is helping! (fingers crossed)

I take it in capsule form. I think it works quickly to alleviate joint swelling pain. I also do teasel root tincture drops. Both work great to relieve joint pain and inflammation.

If I am feeling bad I take it more than once per day.
I also use it for headaches for myself & family. I have read a quite a bit on it & it has been used for centuries in other countries for its healing properties.

Metagenics makes a great tumeric-based product called Inflavanoid Intensive Care.
I find tumeric, along with krill or omega 3 fish oil, works well to reduce inflammation.
I had costochondritis, and two capsules of tumeric, along with omega 3 fish oil, resolved the inflammation.

I take it in the form of Zyflamend - it's a gelcap made by New Chapter. I take 2 with lunch now that I'm better, as injuries from my teen yrs really left my knees a mess. When I was sick and miserable, I took up to 6 or 8 throughout day with food.

I take both New Chapter zyflamend and tumeric force.
We were advised by S. Buhner that he would be adding it to his treatment of Babesia and it is one of the ingredients in Byron Whites A-Bab.
From the data sheet:
Curcuma Xanthorrhiza: This is an immune stimulator that has strong anti-oxidant effects. It is liver protective, encourages the produc- tion of bile and prevents the formation of gallstones. It contains high amounts of the essential oil cinnamalhehyde that has anti-inflammatory properties.

Back from the ophth. The inflammation in my eye has subsided.
He did have me on eye drops as well, but I was on them before I started the turmeric and still had the inflammation. I think adding the turmeric made the difference.
He says surgery in January.
I take 500mg, 3x a day.

I go to the Indian Grocery, and buy a 1 lb. bag of tumeric for $2 and put it in the capsules myself.
They have the capsules at Whole Foods. They cost more than the tumeric!
We take it every other day, alternating with olive leaf extract. It helps my son's acne, and we haven't been sick since we started it.

Archer Farms (Target) Turmeric Recall - lot numbers
===============================
This dates back to 2009 lots, but the recall is recent.
Do not assume that other brands are safe.
Communicate with your source for assurance to find a pure product, preferably one that is regularly tested for lead, etc.
Lead also shows up in cocoa and chocolate. Again, check the source. -

Not as good as OmegaBrite, IMO.
I have 20+ files on curcumin and talked my sis into trying it.
It didn't do the job.
OmegaBrite (the absolute best), however, DID lower her CRP level.
But she chose to stop taking it.
Humira (shots) helped with the inflammation, temporarily.
Fosamax did not prevent the ongoing joint destruction.
Ongoing inflammation MUST be controlled (halted ideally).

Hi MattH,
I get the Olive Leaf, Country Life brand, at Whole Foods. I can't remember the exact price, but I think it's reasonable. Some brands are higher than others.
I usually ask the person working there what is best. They seem to be quite knowledgable.
They are capsules - 150mg.
Next time I go to Whole Foods, I will check the price.
Hope this helps.
