Methionine is needed for Methylation. A result of methionine's activity can produce sulfites.

But sulfites are not the same thing as sulfa-drugs. Sulfites and sulfa-drugs are completely different things.

Sulfa-drug allergy can happen to anybody. Being allergic to sulfa-drugs does not mean you will also be sensitive to sulfites.

And being sensitive to sulfites does not automatically mean you will be allergic to sulfa drugs.

Sulfite sensitivity usually only happens in people who have problems with genetics that influence how well they methylate.

Methylation is a metabolic process in the body - detoxification and energy metabolism occur as a result; impaired methylation leads to difficulty detoxing, fatigue, and possibly also immune system issues.

Nutritional supplements can support proper function of methylation in those with genetic variants influencing their methylation cycle.

I just found out methionine is something my body is not producing well. It is the precursor to glutathione, the most powerful detoxer in the body.

When I got tendonitis from levaquin, methionine was a tremendous help but I did not know why. Evidently it was helping me detox and heal. Too bad I quit using it.

Razzel explains it well. My inability to produce it also weakens my immune system.
