Have not tried HH but just started Hout powder from 1st Chinese Herbs yesterday. I think Canefan is using or has used HH.
My Bart symptoms are pretty obvious now so we will see if there is any benefit.
I have my LLMD appt tomorrow to discuss.
All the Best, MattH

I like HH caps, yes
There are very few things that actually kill/suppress Bart in my experience. but Houttuynia is one of them

- Houttuynia cordata
Search Google & PubMed for: Houttuynia+cordata
and that term, crossed searched with lyme, borrelia, or bartonella.
[Note, they leave out a "t" for the "common" name but keep both "t"s for the "Botanical" name.
I just called them and they say that is a typo. They will correct within 24 hours.]
They have various preparations of this. BE sure to check all ingredients and call them if you have questions.
Be aware that CORN is in most of their concentrated powders as DEXTRIN, it's a flow agent that is basically corn starch.
It is in the concentrated Houttuynia (5:1 concentrate, five times stronger than plain powder)
That makes the concentrated powder unusable by many who must avoid corn (many with inner ear issues are advised to avoid corn as well as anyone anywhere on the "Autism Spectrum" as are many with lyme).
Dextrin is NOT in their PLAIN POWDER (which is only ground herb).
Be sure to get the PLAIN POWDER, not the concentrate.
Dr. S has also written about this in his books on Bartonella. Past threads discuss this.
Buhner also discusses this at Planet Thrive. -

- Nonna,
When I was taking HH capsules as part of the Zhang protocol, it seemed to do well for me when I added that a few months in. Mostly seemed to be sort of a balance. It was not magic in energy, not sedating but just felt on a more even keel.
I got the sense it's more of a supplemental help, rather than a direct effect at any particular symptom.
Due to finances, I could only be on the protocol for a couple month, twice each time. I would have continued had that been an option as I felt reasonable progress on the protocol.
But Houttuynia is not something to be taken alone, it's intended as part of an overall combination.
You may be taking something now with similar composition or - of you add this is may duplicate or counter act something else.
Even with a good LLMD which you have, I know we all have to study and wonder on our own and then take our questions to our LLMD at the next visit.
I know you can't get to your LLMD very often so be sure to read everything he has written and ask the office to help you update your reading list.
You might just call and ask the office manager if he ever uses Houttuynia, etc.
If you add it on your own, it could throw your current protocol off balance. Now, it may be good for you but it's just best to have your doctor figure out if or how to incorporate it and what else would then require adjusting.
Generally, it's fine to add adrenal and other nutritional support.
You speak about the need energy. Maybe look back over support for:
liver; adrenals; mitochondria;
nutritional needs (are you getting enough good food?) -

oh HH is one herb i literally had trouble swallowing-i used to say it smelled like rotting fish in a sewer-
It's a pretty powerful herb, I ended up with horrendous foot/leg pain and couldn't even put my foot to the ground. Tried it for several mths to see if it would let up and gave it up. Been severely ill for too long probably. Good luck with it.
