I want to increase my magnesium as suggested here to help with my muscle tightness. I am currently using Mag SR twice a day, but it is not enough. I have been doubling them, but they are very expensive, and still don't think they are doing the trick. I bought some mag spray, but it does burn alot so it needs to be rinsed off after application. Is it good to use a mag/calcium combo, like "calm", or something else? Also, what is the best dose to start out at?

The two you have tried usually are said to be most effective outside of more aggressive methods like IM or IV Mg. Calm is more laxative in nature. Chelated Mg is good too according to Dr C in MO. Didn't help me, but he spoke highly of it.
Dosage varies, but Keebler has suggested a min of 1,000 mg daily. Spread dosing every few hours as your body can only absorb so much at a time.

I know Dr. B. suggests Magnesium Chloride Liquid from Nutricology, saying it's one of the most highly absorbable.
As far as amount, seems like it's suggested you keep increasing until bowel tolerance... TS

I'm looking for a good magnesium supplement that doesn't give me the trots...and I can't take citrate or aspartate forms of minerals.
My current magnesium is mag. oxide, and even half a tablet (125mg) is now giving me runs. I used to be able to take 4-6 of these tablets daily (up to 1500mg) without trouble.
Is Magnesium Malate ok? Does it cause diarrhea?

I have had 3 Lyme doctors tell me Magnesium Glycinate. I believe this is the best tolerated and least likely to cause diarrhea. I get the Pure Formulas brand.

My doctor started me on IM magnesium with lydocaine. The shots are painful and leave lumps and bruises but my GI tract can not handle oral magnesium.

I have great results with jarrow magnesium optimizer. It is magnesium, potassium and tuarine. It is only 100 mg magnesium per pill but the combo really seems to work.

I have been having a hard time trying to find the right time to take my magnesium supplements now that I have to take doxy 3 x day. I thought I need to take it 2 hours away from ABX. Do you know if that is the case?

My LLMD didn't tell me it had to be, but I do try to keep it away from my abx. But, the kind I'm taking is SR, so there is always some in my system anyway. I try to take my abx at 8 am then take Mag at 1030-1100. At night I take my abx with dinnwer and take my mag about 930pm

Unfortunately, mag. glycinate causes me to experience severe heart rhythm disturbance (palpitations, pac/pvc's). I also cannot take taurine (because of methylation issues).
I may need to resort to magnesium shots...

Magnesium Glycinate and Magnesium Malate are the two most likely to NOT cause bowel disturbance. The advantage is that higher doses are tolerated which we all seen to need.
Magnesium L-Threonate is a fairly new form. I am combining it with the malate at this time. It's too soon to have something to report.
Studies indicate it crosses the blood brain barrier and can have a positive effect on memory. Magnesium L-Threonate administered to rats significantly boosted their cognitive abilities.
