sleep meds -- make me hyper...

morphine -- breaks me out in red rash everywhere...

bandaids -- cause blisters...

some vitamins and supls say like melatonin - drive me up the wall.

even my doctor says i'm the only one he's seen that reacts totally opposite of everyone else. he tried one thing, wham...i have the "rare" reaction...

even bp meds..

i sometimes have to have 2-3 different tries before we get something right.

even that dang cowden caused bad stomach pain and i was taking very low doses.

i tried fungal defense..whew...bad back and stomach pain.

anybody else react the opposite of what everybody else does??

Could it be genetics? Do either of your parents react differently to meds etc?

The first time I had a colonoscopy, I watched 5 patients before me go in to the room, and then emerge from the procedure either sleeping, snoring or completely stoned.

I had three times the normal dose of whatever they give you in those IV's...the nurse said she couldn't give me anymore, but I would get sleepy...I became super agitated...tried to pull the camera cord...out... And called the gastro a "torture artist".

The nurse kept asking me to keep my voice down, (I was swearing a blue streak), because I was scaring the other patients.

Needless to say, the colonoscopy was my first and last...

They wanted to keep me there because I had more than normal of the IV...bargained with me if I drank the juice, then I could go. (the juice that gets rid of the gas...), so I slammed it back and stormed out in my gown.

I don't react the same as others either, for some things.

I did get sleepy and stoned... 5 hours later.

My parent has the same reaction with IV sedation as well.

I'm wondering if yours could be genetic also...

My father was like that. His meds had the exact opposite result for him than they were supposed to have.

Many with lyme have paradoxical reactions to Rx and to some supplements, too.

MCS and Porphyria can also be part of the puzzle, as they often go with lyme & co. and for those with MCS, things just have to be done differently. A good LL ND (naturopathic doctor) would be a good one to consult about the why and how of it all.

Stressed or damaged liver or kidneys (which nearly always go with tick-borne disease) can also cause paradoxical reactions.

Randi.. That is likely a die-off reaction.

"anybody else react the opposite of what everybody else does??"

Yes!

I have a mast cell disorder. Originally it was thought to be MCS, but MCS doesn't raise IgE levels. Mine are 10 times that of a normal person.

If you go to the "extremely rare" side effects part of a medication insert, that's what I'm most likely to get.

Here are some examples:

Valerian makes me hyper and jittery and it's suppose to me you sleepy.

Benadryl and Zyrtec give me a horrible allergic reaction.

"Healthy" foods like whole grains, beans (even green beans), spinach, etc... make me ill. I do better with refined grains. I'm allergic to nickel and the bran/germ/casings are high in it.

Diflucan made rashes/itching worse, took for several weeks and then was determined to be severely allergic.

Epson salt baths makes me horribly itchy, turn red and I get an unyielding rash even if I only soak for 1 minute! (they are anything BUT relaxing).

Get your IgE levels checked.

My body can basically turn on anything. I have to rotate through shampoos every couple months because my body will just turn on something that was at one time safe.

I've read that advanced adrenal fatigue(adrenal exhaustion) can lead to paradoxical reactions.

I also have these and react to many seemingly benign substances.
