i have a severe sinus infection. i can tell because of the sharp stabbing pain over eyes, bad headache, toothache, earache, dizziness and loss of appetite and smell.
i am on doxy and flagyl for several weeks.
i went to the dr only when i realized it was getting much worse. to be frank, i need your opinion.
my husband said "if you would only let it go your body would heal itself. abx are over used and it's not necessary. you're getting dependent on abx like many people. they're not necessary for every little thing."
uh, ok...but my system is immunocompromised and i don't heal like any other person. sinus infections can turn deadly and i waited several weeks knowing i was going to get one.
he thinks just like his friends and family. they all say you go running to the dr all the time wanting attention.
well i'm NOT wanting attention but i feel there are times when you need medical care and a severe sinus infection is one, dang it.
so my question is, when do you go to the dr for "other" conditions when it's not lyme?? i felt i was completely justified and i KNEW it was not going to get better all on it's own.
i have never gotten over a sinus infection without abx, and that's the truth.
do they heal on their own? not for me, they don't. do they for you?
and does lyme cause these infections or is it the weakened system?
i've had numerous serious sinus issues every single year and they all need medical attention.
sorry, i'm ranting...

I'm so sorry. I absolutely despise sinus infections. I think you should go to the doctor! I have never gotten over a sinus infection on my own.
I got them all the time pre-Lyme and got to the point where I needed Avelox and steroids to get rid of them. I know steroids are a no-no so now I live in fear of getting another one.

IMO, sinus infections, left untreated can lead to bone and then brain infections. Especially if it goes into the sphenoid sinus.
Granted I am no doc, but I think any bacterial infection that lasts longer than 2 weeks should be looked at by a doc.
Let me guess, your hubbie is one of those lucky folks who never catches a cold, doesn't feel sick hardly ever unless he eats some bad food...
Yes, there are lucky people like that in my life as well and yes, they like to spout off things they've watched on CNN or Dr. Oz as gospel. Haha.
Your doc obviously felt that the sinus infection warranted abx, so where's the issue with that?
I hope you feel better soon. Sinus pressure is awful!

Yeah I feel like total crap.
You're right. He's never ever sick. He once drilled through his.fingernail after he smashed it to relieve the pressure. He didnt even have the decency to get an infection!!!
And it was a dirty drill bit to boot.....ggrrrrr

So sorry. I would go to the doctor too my sinus infections never seem to go away on their own.
People who are never sick usually have a hard time understanding people who are sick all the time.
Feel better soon.

Fungal infections of the sinuses are dangerous. They can lead to pituitary dysfunction and infect
brain tissue. I have crappy sinuses usually due to allergic rhinitis. Polyps can compromise sinus
health. You will continue to be susceptible to
infections since your body is fighting lyme and other co-infections. Go to the doc/ear nose throat and ask him/herto swab and to get a ct of your sinuses.
