Had an LLMD appointment today, amongst other things we reviewed my recent LabCorp results from a blood draw 2 weeks ago. At the time of the draw, I was on Mepron, low-dose Zith and Bactrim.

Candida IgG: Negative
Candida IgM: Negative
Candida IgA: High (Result 43 against Normal Ref Range of 0-9)

I've never had this test run before in my life, so pardon the naive questions:
How bad is that IgA result?
Could yeast-based probiotics like Florastor hike antibodies?
Could a candida issue from years ago contribute to an elevated IgA antibody reading?

At first blush, that looks a bit alarming to me since 43 is nowhere close to the top of the reference range of 9.

Other interesting items from the results:
My Bilirubin was high, even for me (3.3). I'm typically at the top of ref range.
Vit D was a bit low, 25-H was 27.9 (ref range 30-100)
Vit D Calcitriol was high, 84.5 (ref range 10-75)
They also screened for Brucella, which I was unaware of at the time, but the result was negative for both IgM & IgG.

Everything else measured in the various panels was in good shape.

In case anybody else is interested in follow-up on the topic of a high Candida IgA titer:
According to most of the content I found, a high IgA titer indicates a likely active infection involving mucosal membranes.

I would definatly start taking high dose milk thistle if I were you, because of the bilirubin. Im assuming your about to start treatment. so liver support is vital

also. Candida tests are very unreliable. Most people, including doctors, dont even put any real weight in candida tests. The best thing to do if you suspect candida is to start taking antifungals and try to limit carbs and sugar. if you see a improvement in how you feel and a reduction in symptoms then you can be pretty sure candida played a role.

Good Luck with everything!!

Thanks, j77,

I had candida antibodies checked through Labcorp fairly recently and was also negative except for IgA. Mine was 11 or 13.

I also had D-aribinol levels checked through Metametrix and thankfully my levels which were sky-high over a year and a half ago came down to less than 30 just a couple months ago.

I had surmised that just checking candida antibodies might not pick up a fungal infection that had mutated. But checking aribinose levels should pick up fungal since that is a fungal by-product.

My LLMD told me that my candida IgA was nothing to worry about and she had seen as high as in the 40's and 50's. So, going by that, I would think your result would need addressed.

Thanks for the input lymegal23.
Proper liver support has been a conundrum for me to say the least. Just about all the standard liver support supplements are contraindicated for my methylation profile... which is rather annoying:) NAC, ALA, Milk Thistle, DIM are some that come to mind right now. This is a microcosm of my life right now though, lol.

Taking into account lyme & co, my abx regimens, genes/methylation and candida.... I am fairly certain that everything I could possibly consume is contraindicated because one of the other variables. I think I can drink clean water still, but that's about it... lol:)

Back to my liver, I started taking Alka Seltzer Gold, Calcium-D-Glucarate, half-dose of ALA, half-dose of NAC, wearing the LifeWave Glutathione patch and continuing my other supportive activities (sauna, hydration, working out, etc). I am bumping up my probiotic doses too, although I will temporarily remove florastor from the rotation until I finish the anti-fungal rx.

Now that I am done with Bactrim, Zith and Mepron... it will be interesting to see if the bilirubin comes down. I have a nystatin Rx I am supposed to pick up this evening to help with the candida. I take a bit of solace in the fact that everything else in the CMP14+2AC & CBC panels looked good.

TNT,
Thanks for the D-Arbinol test suggestion, I will definitely equest that at my next appt.
Cheers.

You might consider looking in to Dandelion, Artichoke or Andrographis for liver support...
