I've been reading about different protocols for a couple of days and watching scary videos.

I think these movies were really worth making and distributing but they are scary and depressing beyond belief.

If I have Lyme ( 41 and 66 Igg only Quest Diagnostics, no IGM) then it's obvious I've had it long enough for it to become chronic and I will always have it, basically.

Anyway I am confused about the best diet for Lyme.

No one really talks about this but they mention that sugar is the enemy, no sugar -- not even fruit.

Is that correct and is that what you all are doing?

I had 8 IgG bands, was VERY sick, and had it chronically. I no longer have Lyme. You CAN beat it, but it's hard and takes commitment.

If you have a bad case of candida, you may need to cut out fruit for a while. I never had a bad case of candida and ate fruit throughout treatment. Fruit in its whole form has a lot of health benefits, so I wouldn't cut it out unless you need to for candida.

Eat healthy foods. Not processed. Make your own food from fruit, vegetables, eggs, meat, fish, quinoa, millet, etc. I cut out grains because grains are inflammatory (I eat some corn). My integrative doctor thinks it's best for everyone to cut out gluten (not just Lyme patients) because gluten is so inflammatory.

If you have bad leaky gut, you might want to go on a specific diet for that, there are a few out there. I used fermented foods, parasite cleanses, and colon cleanses to heal my gut.

There is talk about which diet is better. I think if you're eating whole, unprocessed foods, you're doing well. If you personally need something more specific, at least that's a starting point.

Jordana, I had lyme, babesiosis and bartonella for at least 10 years before I got diagnosed. Still, once I got to a doctor who followed the Burrascano protocol, I got well.

I completed my treatment 10 years ago. I have the same life I had before lyme disease.

I also have at least 5 friends who got rid of lyme. One had it for 50 years (from birth). Still, she got well.

Read the Burrascano Guidelines. Follow his diet while you are on antibiotics. The diet is to control yeast which feeds on sugar. It is found at page 34.

When you are on high-dose combos of antibiotics, you will get yeast if you don't follow this diet.

For the 13 months I was in treatment with my Burrascano type doctor, I followed this diet. I did not eat fruit.

Besides antibiotics, Burrascano says you must take supplements and do a certain type of exercise (weightlifting for one continuous hour every other day). The weightlifting boosts your immune system which is a must if you are to overcome this disease. So, don't ignore it.

Get tested for all of the lyme coinfections (through Igenex) and treat all that you have. An untreated coinfection will keep you from recovering from lyme.

Please don't get depressed! With the right doctor, you can get your life back.

The scary movies are to show people that lyme disease needs to be taken seriously and that it can become chronic. So, they show the absolute worst cases.

This is necessary to overcome the miseducation of our doctors by the IDSA which teaches that lyme is RARE and EASILY cured. The IDSA insists that chronic lyme disease does NOT exist.

So, that is what is behind the lyme movies.

I think there is no one-size-fits-all diet when it comes to chronic illness. Most important is that you avoid foods to which you are allergic or have an immune response. And that can be very difficult! But is is VERY important. Most people dont realize the impact of chronic low grade inflammation caused by immune activation from eating the wrong foods.

Avoiding processed foods and refined sugar is something most diets have in common, and is probably a good starting point for any diet. Limiting or avoiding fruit sugars can be necessary with candida.

Testing for food sensitivities can be helpful, but sometimes you just need to do elimination diets to find out what works and what doesnt work. For example
- Burrascano diet - mostly just to prevent candida
- Dr. S "Lyme" diet - avoiding common food sensitivities
- Paleo diet - again avoiding common food allergies
- Paleo autoimmune - avoiding even more sensitivities
- FODMAP - prevents SIBO
- Histamine free diet
- GAPS
- etc....

Some people do very good on the paleo diet. But if you have histamine tolerance problems, then paleo and GAPS can make the situation even worse. The problem is just that it is very difficult to see what you are sensitive to. Reactions are sometimes delayed by days, so it becomes difficult to link an adverse reaction to a certain type of food.

If you can eat fruit, then you should! It is very healthy! But again, on antibiotics it can be wise to keep fruit sugar content low, or eliminate fruits totally if candida is a problem.

I like your list, S13 .. but disagree that the FODMAP diet prevents SIBO.

Ok lymetoo, you are right, FODMAP is used for different things as well. But SIBO sufferers seem to profit from the FODMAP diet, thats why i put it there.

Thanks very much everyone for your help and encouragement everyone. I'm really overwhelmed at the moment.

It's pretty easy to get lost in the terror and seriousness of this stuff. It's nearly all I think about.

No it's all I think about.

What you're saying is kind of what I was gathering. Lots of antibiotics mean candida; and can also mean c diff which I plan to avoid at all costs.

It's so good to hear I can get well. I've been so sick for so long, and I didn't even realize it until a couple months ago.

Get meningitis and stop being able to walk for a couple weeks, that'll get your attention.
