Thank you for this article. I have a reactivated EBV now, and looking for some alternative treatments.

My doctor had me on 800 mg acyclovir, twice per day. It caused a herx, malaise, fatigue, clumsiness. I've stopped for several days now and feel much better, but still need to address the EBV.

Helpful article.

Has anyone tried BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) for this? There's an online book by Stephen Fowkes and he thinks it resolves viral diseases.

No problem hopeful. I seem to feel MAYBE a little better doing three grams of esther C a day. One in the morning and two in the afternoon.

Also Turkey tail mushrooms boost the immune cell production about ten times based on cancer research studies. I am taking those too.

Please be very careful with any "boosting" of any body system. It can backfire terribly. Support is best.

Be sure your LLMD or LL ND guides you in this. Lyme changes EVERYTHING about how the immune system works, or doesn't or sort of does, might.

While EBV can certainly cause a lot of symptoms some of those attributed to EBV in the article could also be due to those patients having undiagnosed lyme or additional chronic stealth infections.

Certainly, where they discuss how EBV may cause "MS" all tick borne infections as well as Cpn (chlamydia pneumonia) are most likely involved.

EBV is unlikely to be a solo act but more likely to be activated when someone has other more nefarious infections.

Of course, anything to lighten the load may be of help. Yet, often, when lyme / TBD / Cpn are assertively treated, the "lesser" ride-alongs can fade away.

I saw that Dr. B guidelines called for Reshei mushrooms, which I am also taking.

They are very similar immune modulators. If your immune system is low, it gives it a boost, or if it is going crazy it slows it down.

I wish someone would study the Turkey Tails on lyme.

A knowledgeable naturopath can treat chronic EBV (a herpes virus) through L-lysine supplementation and a low Arginine diet.

http://www.herpes.com/Nutrition.shtml

You can google more information on this.

Also, most people carry EBV; it is only when the immune system becomes depleted that these viruses rear their ugly heads. Strengthening the immune system must be taken into consideration so it can deal with the viruses as it was meant to do. Unfortunately, many drug treatments people are doing for chronic Lyme and coinfections can also suppress the immune system...

Adding to Phoiph's excellent advice, and also something a naturopathic doctor can guide:

There are also some very specific herbs such as Olive Leaf Extract, Allicin, Berberine, etc. that can be of tremendous help. A good place to start is reading Morton Walker's book, here:

How to find an ILADS-educated LL:

N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor);

L.Ac. (Acupuncturist);

D.Ay. (Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine);

D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine);

Herbal Safety considerations & reference books; etc.
