had my dog at the vet the other day with some infected rash on her belly.
I mentiones lyme and they went on and on how we could test my dog and get a 8 min. result- then send it out and get even more reults after that... they went on about using the vaccine, tick repelant, etc.
of course I asked how the test can be so accurate adn easy for a dog, and how can the vaccine work on dogs but not humans, etc. I don't think they really knew, but the nures said that things just work differently in annimals than they do for us.
is this true???? she said it was the elisa test. is that the same elisa we get?????
I asked how many + they actually get compared to % of how many tests they give out, but she only told me how many + they get a week, so I didn't want to drill them... I had already turned the dr off when she started explaining ticks to me and I told her I knew all about them.... haha.
it's funny how you can tell a dr, even a vet, that you "know all about ticks and lyme" because you' ve had it and they still try and tell you theier spiel.

As far as I know the c6 peptide test they use works the same way for dogs as it does for us.
It was so hard for me to get a straight answer about Lyme from anyone this whole past year I was actually plotting to somehow try to find a compassionate veterinarian to test and treat me.
I would totally take dog drugs.

I have often wondered the same thing! Since I didn't have a bullseye rash and I couldn't pass the Infectuous Disease Doctor's totally unreliable Lyme test, I was denied the two weeks of Doxy that I would have been entitled to.
Since I was in such pathetic shape, I was desperate to get some abx and had started wondering how I could trick a doctor into giving me a prescription for Doxy.

Years ago after my Lyme Dx - and my horse was showing similar symptoms - I had him tested. Blood was send to Cornell. Came back negative. I wanted the written report - could not get it. Was finally told he tested positive on band 41. I still wonder how a horse could test positive on band 41 - from what? I still suspected Lyme. A few years after that Cornell came out with a new test for horses. It's a kind of antibody test. IIRC it can tell if the horse had Lyme in the past, was vaccinated against Lyme - or presently has it. Still not convinced my horse was negative - we did that test. It was negative.
FWIW I initially started on Doxy as Rx'd by my eye doctor for dry eyes. I had no idea I had Lyme at the time. (and dry eyes/mouth a symptom). Doxy is Rx'd for acne and I think Rosacea. Just in case.........
