Since my Lyme diagnosis five years ago, I get these SCARY times of feeling like I am losing my brain or about to die.
It only happens as I am going to sleep. Last night it was SO bad, and I feel like I have to fight to keep from slipping into something BAD... like maybe even brain death.
It last only a couple of seconds, but it is so scary I get an adrenaline surge that makes my heart beat so fast it feels like I stepped off a cliff!!!
I have been through the entire antibiotic treatments and parasite treatments but still can't shake this SCARY, SCARY symptom.
I am afraid I will succumb to it sometime.

You won't succumb to it. I used to get that too before I started taking some of the Buhner herbs and I, too, went through an abx regimen (which is a lifesaver) but until all the bugs are eradicated, you must keep after them.
As I was falling off to sleep, I used to feel like I was falling off a cliff into a deep abyss. If you can get some Cat's Claw, do it right away. There are some people who have healed themselves completely using only Cat's Claw. Usually when a person has Lyme, they also have Bart and Babs
You also have to take something to get rid of Biofilms. The little devils create mucous bubbles in the intestines where they hide and multiply. The mucous protects them from abx and from some herbs. If you are interested, pm me and I'll tell you what I take to get rid of Biofilms. Don't want to make this too involved right now. I think cat's Claw is important.

I would suggest getting checked for Bartonella by Galaxy Diagnostics triple blood draw with 21 day PCR culture. I have had this same thing happen to me with Bartonella.

Yes, Bart definitely loves giving neuropsychiatric symptoms. Babesia makes one weepy. Lyme alone can cause neuropsych symptoms, too. A combo of coinfections makes all symptoms worse.
Remember though, Lyme, babesiosis and bartonella are all clinical diagnoses and may not show up on blood tests. Babesia and Bart didn't show up on my blood tests, "just" Lyme. However, babesia showed up loud and clear with a blood smear.
Based on my symptoms, my LLMD diagnosed me with Bart. I am being treated for Bart, too, and the herxing caused a nasty increase in neuropsych symptoms at first, but now the treatment has helped a lot in that area.
But, I agree that Bart sounds like a very real possibility. Do you have a good LLMD? If not, send me a pm and I can recommend one. Also, you can pm me if you need support.

Based on my 7 year experience with this beast, and a lot of research and reading, I think what happens is the Bart gets into the brain and CNS and causes hypo profusion that comes in waves. Sometimes a hypo profusion "attack" or increase may cause extreme anxiety and the feeling of death. I think the heart may compensate to try to get blood flow to the brain even though it really can't. I also think the adrenals go off to get the heart pumping more blood. I feel the brain knows when its hypoprofused and the autonomic nervous system kicks off to try to compensate for this even though it cannot do a good job. Personally when I first go sick, before I knew I had bartonella I was diagnosed with consistent cerebral hypo profusion via a dopler study by a prominent Dysautonomia doctor at NYU. They were really clueless why this happens to people. I now believe its bart and other infections that are affecting tons of people diagnosed with POTS and autonomic dysfunction.

It could be heart palpitations. If the heart skips a beat, you can feel this rush when it catches up. And, the heart has to work harder when you lay down (counterintuitive) so you are more prone when lying down.

Since becoming sick my head/brain often feels on the verge of something bad, but EEG was clear.
I retested bartonella, and even though I am sure I still have it my test came back negative, so I must not have a lot of bart left.
tulips, I tried cat's claw both kinds and it didn't do a THING... whaaa I have also tried a good many of Buhner's other herbs.
me, I think I have a pretty good Lyme dr. Thank you for your kind support.
kms1990, I wonder too if it isn't a hypo profusion attack of some sort. Recently, I had my adrenals checked and they are low. I just started cortisol, hoping this would keep me from feeling so "edgy" and jumpy and wired and anxious.
So far I have low vitamin D, low immune function, mold mycotoxins, gliotoxins, Lyme, bartonella, babesia, mycoplasma, high Epstein Barr titers, low co2, and low adrenals.
Nice to know I am not the only crazy head out there! Man, it can be a rough ride!

Judie, I am currently off all meds. I decided to give myself a small couple week break. I have been on them so much and so many. Truth be told I can't tell any difference since being off them!
If nothing changes, I am tempted to stay off, though they have helped a bit in the past. The only abx I really responded to was Flagyl. but it only helped a few months.

Blue Lyme, I will say that my adrenaline kicks in AFTER the attack. something goes so haywire, and I TRULY feel like I am losing my mind. Complete shut off with NO return.
I feel this is different than just getting a rush for no reason, which happens to me too sometimes.

Hi FoxyLoxy...
This was a prominent symptom for me. I was always jolted awake whenever I tried to fall asleep, feeling as if I was entering a black void, of which there would be no return. The depth of negativity that accompanies it is indescribable.
It made me think of an untethered astronaut doomed to float through space...
Anyway, with continued mHBOT, this all resolved.
After I became well, I talked to my neurologist/HBOT friend about this symptom. She agreed with me that it was likely a brain wave glitch when transitioning into sleep stage, related to the brain inflammation...

IMO, bart rarely shows up in a test.

Chronic bart actually is very hard to come back positive. It hides in your immune cells and tricks your body from not making IGG towards it. Galaxy Diagnostics triple blood draw for 21 days PCR is the only test I would get.
*Edit* Even this test is not 100% accurate. However if it does come back with a positive result the chances of that result begin correct is about 99%. (Ie. there is little chance of a false positive)

Phoiph, good to know mhbot helped you with this. Maybe my diving will pay off one day too!:)Thanks for the encouragement!
Lymetoo, My thyroid is a but out of line, and yes, my adrenals are an issue. I am hoping low dose cortisol will help.

The antibiotics that caused mental issues for me were:
levaquin (damage lasted for YEARS after stopping the drug)
azythromycin (rages, they calmed when I stopped the drug),
rifampin (my body lacks the genes to process it, felt INSANE on it)
LDN (not an antibiotic, but caused a psychotic reaction even on a low dose, stopped when I discontinued it)
