Since contracting Lyme I have had issues with constipation and when I was immediately prescribed a Vitamin C flush and Magnesium citrate power.

The taste as horrible but I did it, Then the constipation was made worse when I was also diagnosed with 2 molds, gliotoxin and black mold and prescribed coconut charcoal caps.

The dosage for Mg citrate was increased to 4 tsps a day not only is it NOT working but I can no longer handle the taste (makes me nauseous immediately).

I have had to resort to taking Dulcolax twice this week but that isn't really helping.

I'm worried toxins that Im trying to detox from are building up. Any recommendations on something for constipation and a pill form of Magnesium?

I have read posts that talked about Magnesium that you can "tolerate" but how do you know this?

Thanks

For constipation I'd recommend:

- Triphala caps or liquid. An Ayurvedic remedy made of three types of fruits (myrobalan). Non-habit forming, can be used regularly.

- Cardamom steeped in hot milk. Safe for everyday use, tasty.

- Senna leaf tea. Often sold in a green box labelled "dieters tea". Just one cup a day though, it works too well. Habit forming (sennosides = xlax).

- 1cup water with 1tsp baking soda 2x/day. It has a certain effect when done regularly.

For reliable magnesium supplementation I recommend BodyBio liquid mineral #3.

Drinking mangosteen juice does it for me - completely regularizes the bowels. It's an anti-inflammatory juice. I drink the Mango-Xan version, as it's the most tart. It also stops my Lyme eye symptoms. In health food stores and online.

We're all different so we need to find what works for us.

High quality probiotics/fermented foods with active cultures also very helpful along with fiber from natural sources, e.g., oatmeal

How about chugging a quart of warm water with a pinch of sea salt in it?

I struggle with constipation, and for me what finally got it mostly under control was:
Magnesium Oxide (around 1500mg daily-tablets)
Vit C (around 800-1000mg daily powder form in juice)

and when that still isn't working I add in Miralax and that will finally get things moving.

I had to play with the dosage until I got it right but its working now consistently.

Hi, Constipation is often from not enough water in the colon. That's why we can get that plug there. I find only 'Milk of Magnesia' works, which takes water out of the body (the Magnesium salts do this) & putting it back in the colon. This has been around since 1873. I take 2 tablespoons for lesser condition & 3-4 for serious. After going I will get diarrhea to some degree but all will be cleaned out. Then I used 1-2 teaspoons daily to keep reguloar but without diarryhea. You;ll find what the best dosage is for you. Now I use Kefir to keep regular & it works great, but still would use Milk of Magnesia in serious cases.
PS. If we get constipation from lack of water and use bowel stimulating herbs, the result is a lot of pain, possible tearing of the sphincter muscle, and it still might not work.

Milk of magnesium was the product used for constipation when I grew up.

Quite safe, I suppose, unless you don't have the problem!

Coffee enemas (they work in 15 minutes).

Try some prunes. It sounds old school, but it works. It generally takes more than 4 at one time to work.

Start with 3 or 4 at one time on day 1, slowly go up from there as needed and tolerated.

prunes work for sure and I definitely feel worse if constipated. blending some nice veggies helps me a lot.

I was chronically constipated until I started juicing/blending veggies everyday, now I am regular.

carrots are quite fibrous and I like to make a carrot apple juice. good luck
