What are anyone's thoughts about the connection of RA and mycoplasma infection. Was dx with late stage lyme in 2007 and treated for three years and achieved remission. Fast forward to 2015.

Aching joints and positive anti cup sent me to Rhuematologist. Not characteristic presentation of RA. No swelling or inflammation just pain. Still no swelling or joint enlargement just migratory pain.

Was dx. With mycoplasma infection and put in a medical study to test abx on mycoplasma but became pregnant and dropped out of study. Mycoplasma was never addressed. Could lingering infection be cause of RA like phenomenon?

Returning lyme disease is the most likely cause of arthritis symptoms. Lyme causes a type of arthritis called lyme arthritis.

So, until proven otherwise, I would do some lyme treatment and see what happens.

"Migratory pain" as you describe your symptoms is the #1 CLASSIC lyme symptom. In fact, my lyme doc said that this is so characteristic of lyme that he uses it as one of 3 symptoms to determine whether or not a person is having a recurrence of lyme.

I don't know what type of mycoplasma you were diagnosed with, but the little research I did on it did NOT indicate that it would present this way.

So, do some lyme treatment. And, you may also want to treat the myco. It may be that the lyme meds will also treat the myco.

Perhaps a lingering myco infection is what caused your immune system to eventually lose the battle with lyme and cause a relapse.

Anyway, there is no way I would be seeing a rheumatologist if I were you. They can't cure arthritis (unless they are one of the minority that treat arthritis with low dose antibiotics). So, I would not accept any of the treatments from such a doctor.

Ask him if he can cure people. The answer is that he just treats symptoms to give you a little relief. I would rather go to a doc who offers me a possibility of a cure--in other words, a lyme doctor.

I know so many stories of people diagnosed with RA that really didn't have it. A good friend of mine is one. I took her to a great integrative doctor after the rheumy and her primary determined she had RA.

The integrative doctor gave her anti-inflammatory supplements and her hands that had swelled up like balloons stopped swelling up. Then, he tested her for food allergies and when she stopped eating the 3 foods she was most allergic to, that is all she needed to get rid of her supposed RA!

So many on here have told stories over the years of being told they had RA. Then, they went to a lyme doc and were treated for lyme and that was the end of the RA and the proof that the RA diagnosis was incorrect!

So, forget RA. Go to a lyme doctor and take some more treatment. Do the Burrascano rehab program to restore your immune system to normal.

It is 1 continuous hour of weightlifting every other day. Do light weights and numerous repetitions. Do a full body workout meaning arms, chest, back, abs, butt, and legs.

This will strengthen your immune system so that you don't relapse again. Read it on page 31 of Burrascano found here:

"LYME DISEASE REHABILITATION

Despite antibiotic treatments, patients will NOT return to normal unless they exercise, so therefore an aggressive rehab program is absolutely necessary. It is a fact that a properly executed exercise program can actually go beyond the antibiotics in helping to clear the symptoms and to maintain a remission."
