Can someone please explain to me what is the difference between igm and igg. Is one a current infection, the other a past infection? thank you.

This explains it from a real LLMDs knowledge.

"Because Borrelia burgdorferi is a chronic persistent infection that may last for decades, you would think patients with chronic symptoms would have positive IgG Western blots.
But actually, more IgM blots are positive in chronic borreliosis than IgG. Every time Borrelia burgdorferi reproduces itself, it may stimulate the immune system to form new IgM antibodies.
Some patients have both IgG and IgM blots positive. But if either the IgG or IgM blot is positive, overall it is a positive result."

Our LLMD told us that IgM is a current infection and IgG is a past one. Hope this helps.

- A "past" infection can still be ongoing, though. -

my llmd did not do the western blot through Igenex, she did something called Immuglobin something, I'm sorry I don't have the test results in front of me, but she said it was more accurate than the western blot. It was positive under the igm for two bands, however she said " all this tells me is you have been exposed to lyme" not whether its active or not. she did put me on doxy however I feel worse on it. Maybe its herxing, I feel like I have the flu and crying all the time. igg was negative and all my coinfections were negative.

on top of this I was diagnosed with RA and I cannot figure out why I hurt so much, is it from the RA or the lyme? I do know that bands 31 and 41 are lyme specific, am I correct? Now they want me to start Effexor for this crazy anxiety. I have not done well on any of these drugs but still trying to find one that helps me. thanks for the posts.

This is the problem I feel. She is treating me for depression/anxiety more than lyme itself, I am not sure she even believes I have lyme. can someone give me some input on what I should do?
