Post Infectious Disease Syndrome An old paper from 1988.
At that time, there had been increase in post infectious syndromes, and this paper discussed what were such syndromes, what could be the cause.
Lyme was not even known, so Bb is not discussed, but we all know that Post lyme Syndrome became the fashion diagnosis 20-30 years ago - doctors denying persisting infection in patients.
Well, this paper shows that Bb is not unique, in the sense that many other infections (viral, bacterial) persist CAUSING symptoms LONG TERM.
Does this ring the bell?
For me it's clear: many infections never become fully dormant, but continue to cause low grade inflammation, causing symptoms.
It's far from only Bb causing long term symptoms.
So the question is: how do you know you suffer only from persistent Bb and not from persistent HHV-6, persistent salmonella, persistent Herpes simplex, persistent EBV, persistent mycoplasma, persistent TB etc?
My answer would be: we, in fact, have no idea of what we suffer.
I do think that once you discovered you got any CHRONIC PERSISTENT INFECTION, it means you could be suffering from MANY other chronic infections too.
You may ask: is ONE infection CAUSING the others to surge?
I don't think we know THE answer, but what we know is that ALL INFECTIONS that cause PERSISTENT symptoms (post infectious 'syndromes') could be wrecking havoc in your immune system, causing OTHER infections to rise.
In any case, I would forget about treating one infection as a main cause, thinking it is THE culprit for all other infections, but treat the IMMUNE system and the body as a whole as FIRST strategy.
Of course, treating individual infections with specific treatments is still very useful, but it will probably not solve the whole puzzle of Post Infectious Syndromes.
That solution lies in the whole body's immune defenses, good nutrition, supporting detox pathways, lowering stress etc.
The reason I write this here is that so many people suffer from nerve inflammation, or from food intolerance / allergies, weakness, eye symptoms, tinnitus, gut problems, liver problems etc
All these problems / symptoms are FAR from being SPECIFIC to lyme disease, so in my opinion, people should look further than Bb and lyme for solutions.

I wasted 18 years trying to kill the big 3, Lyme, Bart and babesia. First with almost 4 yrs of abx.
Then on to rife and other alternative treatments. I had no clue all the underlining infections of bacteria , candida, mold, fungus, viral overload and the BIG one was Thyroid disease not treated properly. I didn't have a prayer for recovery with a dead thyroid, thyroid auto-immune Hashimoto's and clueless doctoring for proper Thyroid tests and treatment.
All those years of abx didn't even touch the so called easy to kill bacteria in my body such as Mycoplasma, Rickettsia, Ehrlichia, strep, staph, Pseudomas, mycobacteria, oral spirochetes, etc.
It's a cess pool and until you know your own cess pool and treat it with something besides abx, one continues to be ill.
Abx add to the bodies burden because they set up the environment in your body for Candida, Fungus and Mold illness.
It's never just the big 3 aka Lyme, Bart and Babs. TG, I finally found my truth.

Pam, sorry for late reply. I hope you are better from your thyroid problems.
Everyone with lyme will eventually have thyroid problems, sooner or later. A bit like liver problems, gut problems: everyone with lyme'll have them.
The question is: what came first?? Was it really lyme the beginning?
Or what needs treatment first? Like in your case, it seems it was your thyroid.
