- It's very rare to find a MD neurologist who not just is lyme literate but who also treats lyme. There may be only one or a few in the whole country.
In addition, most MDs who have gotten to the extra specialty point of being a neurologist are not normally going to go against the grain of typical Rx kinds of treatment for the typical things they treat.
Often, for those with lyme, most ILADS educated (or similar) LLMDs and LL NDs can work very well with a range of even serious neurological symptoms in those with lyme and other tick-borne or chronic stealth infections.
A neurologist will have to follow the IDSA kind of model and that is not going to work for tick-borne infections.
Yet, that one, or a few, in the country who go beyond to also embrace the ILADS approaches which often also do included nutritional or herbal supplements, well . . . most likely you will do fine with a good LLMD or LL ND.
If there is more to the picture in addition to the things lyme or tick-borne / chronic stealth infections are causing, a good LLMD or LL ND will still refer out to a neurologist for testing / assessment to either rule out or confirm other matters not related
but - again - a neurologist is not likely to manage treatment for lyme, coinfections or any natural approaches.
Integrative / Holistic / Functional Medicine M.D., etc.
Be aware that integrative doctors can have various levels of formal herbal &/or nutritional education, perhaps even just a short course. Do ask first. Some have learned on their own from experts in the field.
There are many ways to acquire knowledge and most are eager to share basic details about their training. You want someone with a deep knowledge.
Some of the specialities above may not actually treat lyme yet, for things such as physical adjustments, it is just good that they are also LL, at least to some degree (to know never to suddenly twist the neck or spine).

Understanding of the importance of addressing the infection(s) fully head-on with specific measures from all corners of medicine;
knowing which supplements have direct impact, which are only support and which are both.
You can compare and contrast many approaches. -
