i got a call from a nurse morning and all she said is "Dr. blahblahblah listened to your message (which sounded incredibly desperate), he said he can't help you long distance for your hypothyroidism, and to find a local doctor."
i feel like there isn't a single doctor in this world who even cares if i live or die. i guess i just got my hopes up that the LLMD could actually understand what is going on with my thyroid and pituitary since other doctors haven't been able to, but my LLMD doesn't even want to try.
so much for everyone telling to "call my LLMD right away." ... quite frankly, i don't want to call him ever again. i feel SO unbelievably hopeless right now. i worked SO hard to get my spirits up all week and i feel like i've hit rock bottom sll over again.
Jesus is just gonna have to heal me soon, because i can't do this much longer!

for your thyroid & hormone try these doctors Bodylogicmd.com They have doctors all over the U.S.
I had to switch to them since my PCP, Endocrinologist & yes even my llneuro were stumped.
They don't accept insurance but my insuranr reimburses me.
So far I'm seeing improvement and my Dr. has been treated for lyme.
good luck

I can commiserate kellephant, as while my LLMD is good for some things, I feel like the practice has blinders on when it comes to anything outside of Lyme & Co.
You'll bounce back in spirit I'm sure. Anyone who can put up with this disease is tough beyond belief, in my opinion. I don't have practical advice for you, other than to hang in there.
dmc, thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

We should not expect our LLMD's to be experts in everything. Lyme is so complicated. Sometimes we need the help of other compassionate knowledgeable specialists.
My LLMD was willing to run the thyroid tests but hesitant to treat. I had to ask many many times. Tests keep coming back low, symptoms not improving, I'd have to ask to up the dose.
I eventually decided that this was something that I needed to take care of so I found a local doctor willing to help. I switched from Synthroid to Armour thyroid last week. Hoping to see some improvements soon.
We need our thyroids (and adrenals, and livers,...) to work properly so that we can fight off these infections.
Is there a pharmacy nearby that you trust? You could try calling and asking them for the name of a local physician that prescribes thyroid hormone treatments.
Keep trying. It is hard work finding help sometimes.

hey guys, i just want to clarify that if my LLMD simply wasn't knowledgeable about these issues, i wouldn't be upset AT ALL that he is refusing to help me!!
that's not the case though! he acted like he knew a lot about the thyroid and pituitary. he gave me false hope that he would help me with those problems at my last visit... i just couldn't afford to get the labs done at his office that day since you have to pay for everything upfront, and the visit plus western blot was so expensive.
maybe he doesn't make money if i go to a lab besides his, and that's why he won't suddenly help me now. thats the only conclusion i can come to!...
he never said he couldn't help. he said he couldn't/wouldn't help me "long distance."
i just really don't think it should be THAT hard for me to let me get my labs done here. especially with as much as we all pay to see LLMDS. i live 4 hours away... so it's unpractical for me to go all the way there for tests i can do here.
anyway, thanks for the encouragement. i will check out that website...

I live about 2 1/2 hours away from my doctor, and in his case at least, there seems to be an issue with where he does and doesn't have privileges.
I had to get a PICC placed, and even though I work in a hospital, I couldn't get it done there, because he doesn't have privileges to order it. I had to drive, 6 hours round trip, to get it done. I just drove up for my appointment Monday, and have to go back Thursday to get my first dose of the new medication he's switching me to. It's costly, and inconvenient, but there doesn't seem to be a way around it.
I don't know your doctor, of course, but I wonder if there's some issue with the labs, or with authorizing prescriptions, or whatever because you're so far away. I have to drive up once a month to see my doctor, or I can't get my prescriptions refilled.

it would be nice if i could actually TALK to my doctor to hear him explain why he wouldn't help me...
if i would have been told that i needed to come there to get the tests, it would have been inconvient, but i would have done it!!! i'm too afraid to call and ask now, because he and his staff just make me feel like they don't care.
he hasn't had any problems authorizing prescriptions here though, so i don't know... i will bring it up at my next appointment i guess.
