Thank you for your care, kindness and prayers. We are thanking Almighty God that we are ok.
Our hearts are breaking for those who lost their lives and homes. What a terrible tragedy!
We live just outside of Chicago and believe me, it was nasty! We were in church at the time it started and our pastor told us to stay inside as it was not safe or wise to go out.
The winds (70-75 mph!!) were causing the rain to come down in sheets. It was very grey and dark and the tornado sirens were going off as we were driving home. Very frightening!!
The rural areas about 3 hours south/southwest of Chicago got the brunt of it, and I read at last count six people lost their lives.

We were so lucky here. Yesterday was rainy in the morning and cloudy majority of day. Those that got hit had some sun that heated up atmosphere and set them up for the perfect tornado series.
It was coming our way across Indiana and just feel apart here. Thank goodness, our air was not right.

Rivendell, I was thinking of you last night. Told myself to go lymenet searching for you today?
Are you doing okay or have I missed your postings?
Surely, your body told you loudly Sunday, that something big was coming. My head went into the vise at noon and didn't let up until late into the evening.
I tried to spend day at rest, but I was super strung anxiety all day.

We were in a high risk area and at one point during the storm our tornado sirens went off due to to a sighting just north of us. I was surprised because my cell phone also alarmed and told me to seek shelter at the same time.
Honestly it was scary because reports of Illinois were starting to roll in to the news room so they were taking the storm seriously. The wind and rains were powerful.
We were blessed that there was no damage here. It breaks my heart to see and hear about what happened in IL. I've been praying for them and hope that they get enough help that they need soon.

The city that was destroyed in IL was 20 minutes from me. Not too much damage in my town--some trees down and fences ruined. A little hail damage to my car.
Most people were at church when the tornadoes came through which saved their lives!

I just realized Sunday was the Full Moon on top of the storm system. My memory(?) was telling some time this week was Full Moon.
No wonder Sunday was a whammy.
Riv, I've done all my Christmas shopping on line already. Every year I give holiday tree ornaments to loved ones. Yesterday I even bought those on line.
Yes real life issues can hit us too. Monday my dryer was running and 5 minutes later I heard it shut off. Oh no. Just 6 mths ago we replaced the thermal fuse with a service man. Cost $165
this time I went to the appliance parts store and pay $26 and my husband and neighbor fixed it. I had too many sweat pants & shirts in at one time.
That was a 2 trip to the parts store ordeal. Dryer is too old to put more big money into. But I didn't want a dryer for my Christmas this year.
6 more months, that's all I need. We'll see. I'm sure not the roll off the shoulder type, stress free woman I used to be.

We are ok! the tornado hit Pekin first(I think) they barely had any warning and we were told it just appeared out of nowhere. East Peoria, Morton and Washington were also hit. Washington was hit the worst and there are areas of total devastation. We think the tornado skipped over our house or went down the road right by us. It was very close. We were in church at the time, didn't even hear the siren until someone came upstairs and told us(she had an alert on her cell phone.)
We've been without power since the storm hit and finally got it back on last night. Glad everyone here is ok! We could only get the news talk radio station in on Sunday~heard people in Chicago were finding checkbooks/bills addressed to people who live in Washington. It was crazy. You don't really expect something like that in Novemeber.

Wow Buffy, skipping your home. I hope they get power going soon. I just heard on talk radio that area is looking for cold weather this weekend.

Boy, that's scary, Buffy!!! So glad you escaped!!!!
We are 75 miles from the Joplin tornado and they found papers and stuff at least 65 miles away. F5 storm.
We had a tornado a few miles from us two years ago. Slept through it. When I saw the map of its track, I realized how lucky we were! Came parallel to us (west to east) about 2 miles north of us.

Tornadoes are so scary.
Lymetoo and Buff, you are both very lucky to have been spared those F4s. (Maybe Joplin was an F5)
We've had them close, here, but not as close as two miles.
Pam, I hope your dryer can hang on. And yes, I sometimes can feel full moons too!

Correction on what I said.. The tornado here was "only" an F2 or 3.. not sure. Tons of demolished homes and bldgs though. It was 28 miles long. Hopped and skipped.
Joplin was an F5 .. and then some. There was nothing left but a few sticks in a 6 mile stretch of town.

If you live near Joplin, then you are truly in tornado alley.
I am too in Indiana, but I think Joplin is near Kansas or Oklahoma, correct? And I think tornados are even more frequent where you live.
I hope you have a basement or tornado shelter. I don't.
Yeah, storms usually only take the top floor, except when they take both.
- Hehee.. yep! We hadn't had a bad tornado here in 80 or 90 yrs until the one 2 yrs ago. Oopsy.

On the news last night they showed F-2 tornado and what it did to a home that was on some business security camera.
One minute the home was there, the next seconds it was completely gone. This home was one of the manufactured homes, built in a manufacturing plant and then shipped in large sections and construction on site. But still, it was screwed and nailed together.
Unbelievable!
