Hi <<<<< LymeNet Family >>>>>,
If you are in the flood areas,or have family in those areas, if you can, please, report in,and let us know you are okay.
We've had news from our two Texas Nieces and their families, so far they are okay. I am hoping all make it thru this mess safely.
We are keeping the folks in the flood areas in prayer. And hoping the best, sometimes nature can really wreak havoc.

It's really heartbreaking for me. I've had experience with a killer flood back when I was in college in Texas, near San Antonio. 28 people lost their lives in our college town and surrounding areas.
All of us helped clean houses and support home-owners who still had homes to clean up. Some didn't.
One of my very best friends from my teaching years narrowly escaped the flood in Wimberley. Her home was next to others that washed away or were thrown off their foundations.
Her family's saving grace was that their house was on higher ground. They were right on the river. It's so heartbreaking to hear about the families swept away, especially the ones with little children.
After the flood in our college town years ago, we lived across the street from a young woman whose mother was swept away in the flood. They found her body 2 YEARS later on someone's ranch. Some bodies were never found.
I read yesterday that the cypress trees along the river that were destroyed were over 500-600 yrs old. They were absolutely HUGE and very beautiful That is such a loss to that beautiful little tourist town that so many people love.
So far, my family in Houston and Dallas are doing OK. I hope it stays that way. I know more rain is coming and the ground is totally saturated.
God bless all the families involved. Please pray for them.
By the way, my friend who narrowly escaped is the same one who almost lost her 20 yr old son to a skiing accident a few years ago. He was in recovery for two years from a brain injury. Many here have prayed for him. He was able to graduate from Texas A&M in December and is now in the mission field. He was with his family in Wimberley last weekend.

Tutu, Good to hear about your friends son!! Amazing story that I remember and remember praying for! And glad your family is ok, at least for now. Hope that continues.
That story of your personal experience and the link you shared, how heartbreaking. Bless your heart!
It immediately reminded me of the flood that hit the Blue Ridge mountains, Nelson County, Virginia, when the radar lost Hurricane Camille and it was thought to be gone.
It had already caused 26 ft high surge of Gulf water in Mississippi and Louisiana, killing about 15o people.
The Virginia weather report called for a little rain with clearing in the morning when folks were headed to bed. Overnight, just overnight, 29 inches of rain fell.
There were 15o dead, entire families, and an unsuspecting area was devastated, with the scars still showing today. Even this long afterwards I often stop and pray for the families laid to rest at the cemetery. It was tragic. Totally unbelievable.

Until it happens in ones own area it may be hard to imagine what a fearful and awful thing floods can be. We've been thru a couple three floods,and mudslides too.
The waters and mud, can knock homes off of foundations, float homes and vehicles away,uproot trees, and twist railroad rails/ties like bits of play-dough.
There are things we saw,that I cannot forget... and loss of life... only God can ease that pain. Please folks,if you pray...remember these folks in the flood path.

You mentioned Hurricane Katrina [oops you said Camille], that storm was horrendous, such awful loss,homes, lives gone.
TxC's Aunt lost her home in New Orleans during Katrina, a friends brother made it to a bridge, swimming w/ a couple of dogs.
Friends brother was in the hospital for weeks after rescue. Another friend was helping w/ pet rescue in Mississippi, so many displaced people and pets. Nature can whip up a frenzy.
Appreciate prayers for our family down in the flood areas. We'll be continuing in prayer for all in the storms path.

The Nieces and their families are in Huntsville Texas, where the prisons are, and right close to Houston.
TxC's Sis was in the same area, but she passed away on Valentines Day this year.
Our relatives are pretty scattered, Washington, Oregon, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Florida. Let's see some in Michigan, one of the Carolina's,Rhode Island,and Massachusetts.
Oh and cousins in L.A., and A cousin and his family that live and work right near Yosemite Park.Almost forgot,another niece and her family are up in Alaska.
Usually w/ bad weather, forest fires/ wild fires, floods or earthquakes if it's USA we've probably got family there.
But the Nieces in Texas, ones husband is quadraplegic, and the other's husband is a fireman. so we get concerned if there are issues near them.
Hugs and prayers continue on for all in the flood/storm path.

Good to here from you, We've been praying for safety, and for the missing to be found. Prayers going up that the rain stops for awhile, and flooding and winds stop.
TxC's Brother from Alabama, told us the nieces and their families in Huntsville remain safe so far. And a friend of his from Louisiana has a *niece and nephew-in-law working rescue on one of the rivers.
I think the *ones working rescue are by the Brazos River ??? Not sure if I got the correct river name or spelling. But we're keeping them in prayer too.
Last I heard our friend Rich' from San Antonio was safe. B-I-L is traveling to Corpus Christi on business in about a week and a half so praying for him to,that the weather calms down.

Hopes and Prayers continue that all are safe,and stay safe. And that the missing are found soon. I am praying for some good reports, we want the missing found safe.
And in prayer commend those that didn't make it thru,into The Arms of the Lord. I think for those wondering and not knowing it has to be extra hard.
When Katrina hit New Orleans area, it made land fall in the Buras/Triumph area where we used to live[we had moved away in 1984]. Many of TxC's cousins still live between there and Belle Chasse, below N.O. It was a tense time, waiting to find out where everyone was,and if they were safe.
Nature produces some mighty storms,which can make for some tense times to say the least. Each person found safe, and rescued animals too,is/are a triumph... a win.
Please keep us informed as to how y'all are doing, and we will hope/pray for the rain storms and winds/flooding to stop...And Soon!!!

Silver, I am the eternal optimist but I also know about these Texas floods. Unfortunately, the people will not be found safe. One body was found more than 35 miles downstream if that tells you anything. It's just a horrible horrible flash flood of epic proportions.
I'm sure there was at least a 25 ft wall of water coming down that river. It rose from the normal 12 feet to 42 ft.
On a happier note, they saved about 500 head of cattle today in Texas NE of Houston. (Not real far from Huntsville, Silver)
The poor things were first herded with air boats in the Trinity River, then herded on land right through the middle of Dayton, TX. It was quite wonderful to see.
When I saw the first video of the cattle in the water, I was so afraid they were all going to drown before they got across the river!! All three videos made me cry!

The best videos were on FB though! It showed the cattle being herded with lots of air boats. The poor cattle were in over their heads and struggling to swim. I'm sure fatigue was a big factor in whether or not they survived.

I know that the flash floods are horribly dangerous, we have them here in Vegas, in the rainy season. Folks in some of the desert recreation areas,have to be watchful. People have drowned on what looked like a beautiful clear day.
And if your in town during heavy rains,and you see water coming down the road,it is not safe to cross. There are warning signs, it can wash your vehicle right down into a gully.
Most every year in Utah, hikers get into trouble in some of the parks they start out climbing rocks ,hiking etc, and get washed away with sudden walls of water. If my brain would think right I could tell you some of the area names.
But optimist that I am, I keep hoping and praying, that at least part of the folk that went missing in the Texas flooding, pets, livestock and so on,will be saved.
MominTexas, the sunshine sounds nice, hope things dry quickly!!

Hope the waters have receded, and clean up is going swiftly. We've been praying for the missing to be found,and if they didn't make it, for peace and comfort for the loved ones.
Lymetoo, I got to look at the various links, pic's,and videos, you put up, here and on FB. I hope the cattle that they got out of the flood zones, pulled thru, it was obvious they were worn out.
I kept thinking about the little calves struggling along. Some of the folk we knew in Idaho, raised cattle,and horses, and it is so awful when the young ones don't make it. Income wise,and emotionally too, it is hard.
One friends daughter lost her prized pregnant mare, after a flood water issue. They saved the little foal,
and a few months later, lost the little one to a freak road construction accident [debri flew into a field and hit it in the head.]. It is so heartbreaking. And the loss of human life is even worse.
Looking at the pics,and vidoes, remindedmeof some of the floods we've been in. It seems it can happen about anywhere.
I was trying to think of the name of the deep rocky crevasse gullies in the canyons down in Utah. So often there are flash floods there.
We were surprised how often it can flood here in Nevada too. They are trying to build 'Water detention facilitation' sites, here as they call them. To help save water when this happens,and channel it safely. There's a lot of canals for water run off too.
Prayers going up for Heavens Angels to comfort those who face loss of loved ones ,property, pets, and livestock. The cost is beyond financial, so devastating. Meanwhile I will keep oping and praying for miracles for those affected in all this.

Hey all, glad you are reporting in. Been worried about you. I met some folks in town today who were from Texas. They had it so bad they had to leave. Their father, an elderly man, lost everything. They were bringing him out of Texas to stay with a sister of his and were in the pharmacy trying to get him some insulin.
They did get a report like mom in Texas said, of two days of sunshine. They seemed somewhat, or actually quite relieved about that.
Also spoke with someone somewhere, real definite huh, who said they had relatives there who lost everything and this person was ok, but water was way to close where they lived too.
But, they also commented on the 2 days of sun finally and how much that helped.
Oh, I know. A guy on the phone from a lab I was talking to. Couldn't remember. Which as you all know is very odd. A Lyme patient forgetting something. HA!
