I am so upset and angry and hurt and just fed up. I walked home from my dr apt today and I am glad because I needed to time to cool off.
this Dr, an internist, supposedly one of the best (once again, ugh) and he told me "there are a lot of quacks out there telling people they have lyme and taking all their money" he said this last time to me too, but I forgot. he essentially told me that I never had lyme, or that I had it but it went away after my initial treatment. and gave
me that blank condescending ego face that says that I am just neurotic. I tried to remain calm but I got a little elevated in my tone. I told him that I had a bullseye!!!....and I was pregnant and they game me 4 days of abx, and that I almost died and couldn't walk to the mailbox, or read, or cook, or etc etc. and that I knew my IQ and it had gone down about 25 points!
to which he turned away and typed on his computer and said " SO, I will send you to the gastroenterologist..."
everything he said I told him my experience with it and it was like he didn't believe me and had some doctorly shut up answer. i told him I had gastroparesis and he said I couldn't have it because it never goes away.
how does anyone get a good GP/PCP???
I had one but he was still too over the top with himself and makes you wait 1-2 hours becasue he likes to come to work late, or he is in a meeting and I could hear him laughing and joking for an hour through the wall...
why oh why didn't I go to med school when I was young!?
I am just so sad right now....

Sorry you had to deal with Mr Egomaniac. You are right to cut that Dr Internist loose, he cannot help you.
It's hard to find a good primary, especially dealing with chronic illnesses.
It took me 6 months to find a new primary. I was desperate.. I googled doctors close by because I knew traveling would be an issue. He turned out to be the BEST doctor out of 25 that I have seen !!!!!!!! Read patient reviews.
Hope you find the perfect fit LisaK.

It can be that bad - I've had similar crazy experiences. I think one way to go is if you can contact Lyme patients and Lyme doctors to get referrals to understanding GPs.

So sorry you had to go through that with an ignorant, condescending "know-it-all"!!!
I would definitely check with your state's Lyme Support Groups and see if they have any recommendations, because they would know better about your particular state.

Asking lots of questions of the staff when you call for an appointment can be revealing. Besides the usual about insurance etc. Maybe we can come up with a list.
Ask any nurses you know in your area who they think is good.
