I am returning to college next week, taking online courses at a nearby community college in a medical program.

Like all colleges I have to have all my immunizations up to date, before I go out to my externship site I need to have a tuberculosis skin test, a flu shot (yup here we go!) and my Tdap booster which I am already over due for. I am on 1 antiviral, and 3 antibiotics.

Are these tests/immunizations even safe and could they possibly compromise my treatment? I graduate in December, I have struggled so much to get here and extremely worried this will be an issue. My LLMD is out till Sept 3.

I know I know.... I should have thought about this a few months ago when my treatment began, a lot has hit me in the last 3-4months. I'm kicking myself now about it.

(breaking up the post for easier reading for many here)

This is a very important question, and one that I think needs to be addressed both medically and legally. I encourage you to get top expert advice in both areas.

Oh Kristyn, this worries me.

At 31, I returned to college after a ten-year break and had to have my vaccines boosted in order to be allowed to re-enroll. (I didn't have access to my childhood records and couldn't prove that I was already immunized.)

This was a disaster. I started having a worsening of symptoms immediately. Not only did my illness get worse, but this worsening made it impossible for me to complete the degree that I had gone back to college to finish!

It was a lose/lose situation. I hope to goodness it doesn't happen to you!
