i tested positive for HHV-6, is this common in people who have lyme or does this indicate i may have something else?

I have HHV-6 as well. According to my LLMD, it is very common for lyme patients to test positive for HHV-6, EBV, HSV.

It has to do with immune dysregulation caused by lyme. My Dr. said that as I treat, my immune system should kick in and begin to keep these viruses at bay. If not, he will put me on anti-viral medicine later on in treatment.

Hi Lotus~
For info on HHV-6 see: www.hhv-6foundation.org.

HSV1 is usually associated with cold sores around the mouth. HSV2 is associated with sores in the genital area. I have HSV1, but not HSV2.

I've posted a lot on the patient forums of the HHV-6 website. I'm Timaca there too.

You might also want to get tested for enteroviruses (use ARUP lab). See: www.enterovirusfoundation.org for more info.

I've seen good improvements from treating both HHV-6 and Coxsackie B (an enterovirus).

Dr. Montoya, from Stanford, will be speaking about viruses at the ILADS meeting on the 16th. Encourage your LLMD to attend his talk.

Best, Timaca
